2 ESSENTIAL HABITS TO BUILD THIS YEAR

GOAL SETTING

Goal setting is a powerful practice that not only improves your productivity, it also makes you more self-aware. Having clear goals can improve motivation levels and when done correctly can be great for your mental health. Especially for those dealing with anxiety or languishing, having clear goals gives more structure to your day and helps you feel more in control. Here's a good article on goal setting and if you are interested in scientific research, here's a paper on the neuroscience of setting goals

DOWNTIME

There's a parallel mental health pandemic going on along with Covid and it's important that we recognize how it is impacting us either directly or subconsciously. Our lifestyles have abruptly changed, stressors have increased and ways of unwinding and diffusing tension have become limited due to lockdowns and isolation. That is why you need to make at least 30-60 mins for mental relaxation every day. This could be through yoga, meditation, music therapy, nature walks etc. You can look up my 9-Day beginner's meditation program to add some new relaxation techniques to your routine.

COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS

Comparing our journey to someone else's is a very destructive habit. We lose focus from our goals, get demotivated and forget that we are unique and not a carbon copy of each other. We must also remember that social media is not a complete or accurate reflection of someone else's life. Most influencers don't actually do the exercises that they demonstrate on social media. And no matter how much you copy someone's eating habits, your body will respond in its own unique way. So, this year, empower yourself with more faith in your intuition, and your uniqueness. You are enough, you are full of possibilities and you are on a journey of growth and evolution. It's your story, you write it on your terms.

2 BOOKS I HIGHLY RECOMMEND

MEDITATIONS - MARCUS AURELIUS

I deep-dived into stoicism this year and couldn't help but notice the strong connections between the messages of Stoics and Karma Yoga. It was a perfect read for the pandemic as ancient wisdom is indeed one of the best stress management tools available to us. Get this book here.

IMMUNITY - DR. JENNA MACCIOCHI

This is a simple, practical and readable book by an immunologist on how your immune system works and what you can do to make it more efficient at its job. It cuts through the social media myths and empowers you to take charge of your health by going back to basics. Get this book here.
