How To Troubleshoot WordPress White Screen Of Death

I've been working an idea for a new plugin.
Because I'm also battling fatigue (stupid thyroid!) I just haven't had the energy for my usual emails.
In the last 2 weeks:
My hubby has secured a new 9 month contract without even trying. Woohoo!
My younger daughter has nearly completed 10 days (!!!) work in a row as a junior doctor...
Complete with 12 hour shifts! Totally insane!
Plus I had a massive problem with my main blog... Eek!
It had...
Da da daaaaaaaa....
A white screen of death!
Which in layman's terms is...
A white screen...
Of death! ;-)
Basically the whole site would only load a Big. Fat. NOTHING!
Just a blank white screen.
I couldn't even access the admin panel. Yikes!
It's never happened to me before and it's more than a little disconcerting...
For "disconcerting" read: it caused sheer blind panic!
So once I'd calmed down somewhat I started to use my brain.
I reasoned that it must be a plugin causing the problem and this is how I went about troubleshooting and this is how you can do it too:
Use FTP (I use FileZilla) to access the site files on the server.
Find the plugins folder (in the wp-content folder) and rename it to something like disable-plugins.
Now you should be able to load your site and login to the dashboard.
Once in there, if you go to plugins you will see that they have all been disabled due to an error.
Go back to your FTP, reset the disable-plugins folder name to plugins...
Then it's just a matter of going back to the WP dashboard and enabling each plugin in turn and checking if you can still load your site.
For me, this found the culprit very quickly and my site now loads no problem...
But re-enabling the troublesome plugin has proved to have been a bit of a nightmare...
I think the database has become corrupt so I need to edit it...
Which is pretty hairy... so I've been putting it off... :-/
Hoping to convince some friendly programmer that the thing they most want to do in the world is fix my database for me. Hehe!
