Friday has come around again scary fast. I swear it's going to be summer before we know it!
I could certainly do with some higher temperatures and some sun...
Sun? Ha! Like that's likely to happen in Britain! Lol!
Anyway, today I wanted to share a couple of free resources that you can use to spy on your competitors or any website you're interested in really...
Ever love the look of a site and wonder if they're using WordPress and if so, what theme they're using?
Well now you can find out easily!
Just type in the URL at What WP Theme Is That?
And hey presto it tells you what themes and plugins the site uses! Woohoo!
For instance, type in http://sallylazarus.com/ and you discover that the website is built using Flexibility Theme...
But you knew that already didn't you? Lol!
It even tells you that I'm using the following plugins:
1. Sociable
2. Commentluv
3. Ultimate Tinymce
4. Google Analyticator
5. All In One Seo Pack
Now isn't that a handy little trick? :)
But that's not all!
Wappalyzer is a useful little free browser add-on takes it a stage further...
This tells you a whole host of information about every site you visit, including whether it's built on WordPress or Drupal, the analytics they use and also some of the plugins they use.
The information appears right in the browser address bar!
Taking the same example from before, you know that (among other things) I'm using Google Analytics and YouTube...
That might not be too revealing, but I discovered the other day that a site I visited uses Cufon Font Script....
On further investigation this looks like a pretty cool way to get great looking fonts on your site. Not quite figured out how to use it yet, but rest assured that I will! :)
I would probably never have known about Cufon without Wappalyzer! Cool huh?
But just a word of warning - it does slow your browser down a bit, so I'd recommend only enabling it when you have some serious sneaky "research" to do.
