Subject: [WPTI] Are You Setting Goals? (My Strategy)

Hi there Friend!

I hope you had a great weekend :) Mine was fairly low-key. Hubby and I got our xmas cards written and in the mail yesterday - this has to be some sort of record for us. We're normally the "Eek! it's the last mailing day, better get the cards done now" sort of people...

I'm trying to be better organised in general so I spent quite a bit of time working ON my business, as opposed to working IN my business over the weekend.

What am I wittering on about you ask...

I'm talking about planning. Setting goals. That sort of thing.

Lack of direction can be a massive problem in any business, especially online.

Not setting goals is one of the biggest mistakes you can make that will keep you from achieving the success you are capable of.

If you don't have a plan and set realistic goals, you have nothing to aim for. So how will you get there?

Look at it this way - if you set out in your car to go from A to B and you have never been there before, what do you do?

Do you drive around hoping for the best?

Or do you look at a map, print out directions from a route planner or set the address in your sat-nav? (That's a GPS for my American friends :) )

Your online business is no different.

And with 2013 fast approaching, now is a great time to make a plan on how to achieve what you are hoping for next year.

Making a plan doesn't have to be hard.

Here's the strategy that I use:

First of all decide on your main focus. (Mine's list building).

That is all well and good, but it's not an objective. You have to set goals to give yourself an objective.

So, decide how much money you want to be making online by the end of 2013 - say $5000 / month.

That is your long term goal.

Then work backwards.

Your mid term goal - in the next 3-6 months will be to be earning $2500 / month.

Most sources reckon that you can make around $1 per subscriber per month.

So in order to make $2500 / month from email marketing you need roughly 2500 subscribers on your list at the end of six months and 5000 subscribers to make $5000 / month.

With me so far?

So you know that you need to build 2500 subscribers within 6 months.

You now know what your short term objective needs to be. You need to set up a blog or a facebook page, create a free gift to give away, build a squeeze page and drive traffic to it. Simples! :)

5000 subscribers may sound a lot to start with, but you only need to get 14 opt-ins per day to have that 5k subscriber list at the end of 365 days.

Sounds pretty achievable now doesn't it? :)

Try it yourself with your own goals for 2013.

Don't forget that the Adventures in Online Marketing facebook group is now live. There's a good few members over there now. I'd love you to join the party Friend :)

She started out as a programmer many moons ago, before the Internet as we know it today was born… No, not in the 1970s. She's not that old! How rude! :P

She's been working online since late 2011. She doesn't claim to know it all. She's still learning too, but she wants to share her knowledge with you and help you succeed online.

She's an ethical marketer and loves helping people to reach their goals. When she sends out a promotion it will always be well thought out, even if it means sending it a day or two after launch.

She will investigate it properly beforehand, get hold of a review copy or buy it herself. She wouldn't recommend anything that she didn't believe in or wouldn't use herself.

Her aim is to save you time by doing the research for you, to make it easier for you to figure out if a particular product is likely to be able to help you reach your goals.
