Subject: [WP Theme Igniter] When Sally Met Harry

So, after a great weekend at the Warrior Event in Orlando, hubby and I went to Universal Islands Of Adventure yesterday and headed straight for the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter.

It’s awesome. Really awesome. JK Rowling’s vision has been taken to another level here, with large-as-life depictions of Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. There's even a life-size Hogwarts Express. Whether you believe in wizards or not, this place is truly magical :)

And the new Harry Potter And The Forbidden Journey ride is simply the best theme park ride I’ve ever been on. And I’ve been on a LOT of theme park rides.

We had lunch at the Three Broomsticks, named of course after the pub in Hogsmeade. It's obviously very busy since it's 12.30 pm, everyone’s hungry and it's started to rain, which it does often in Florida.

When you enter the Three Broomsticks you queue up in a line. A friendly, polite Cast Member asks how many there are in your party. He then directs you to the shortest line (all numbered for convenience – what will they think of next? ;) ).

Your order is taken by another friendly polite Cast Member, who then directs you to your serving hatch. You collect your food, then yet another Cast Member directs you to your table.

Now theme parks are not everybody’s cup of tea. A lot of people object to the way you are herded around, told to go here and do that, and generally directed all the time. I've even been guilty of this myself in the past.

However, there’s a very good reason for doing things this way in a theme park and that is simply this.

You need a system.

When you have hundreds or thousands of people heading for a restaurant at the same time, you need some way of organising them.

And any objections individuals may have to being herded around are soon dissipated when they see the benefits of the system – in this case, you get your meal quickly, its still hot when you get it and you don’t have to worry about finding a table.

What has all this got to do with marketing I hear you say...

If you've ever wondered how some marketers manage to fit the amount of work it might take you to do in a week, into only a few hours, then the you'll be pleased to hear that the answer is...

Tune in next time to find out...

Only joking ;)

The answer is:

Systems.

All the most successful marketers have developed their own systems to help speed up regular tasks. I'm not necessarily talking about software here. Their systems could be a 5 step process that they use for their product creation or email and sales copy templates.

They can plug anything that needs to be done in their business into these systems and get everything done a whole lot quicker.

Now I'm not saying that you can magically develop these systems overnight (unless of course you happen to be Hermione Granger). However, each time you're working on something new in your business, try to think about ways in which you can make it easier next time.

You can get ideas from the systems others have created, but the best way for you to do it is to develop these systems for yourself to ensure that they will work for you.

This is something I've been thinking about doing for a while and having seen how hugely successful fellow marketers at the Warrior Event are, it's something that I will be doing my best to implement soon.

I'm off to have more fun now, but I'll do my best to email again in a few days.

To your success!

Sally
