Subject: [Adventures in Facebook #6] Sally Vs. The Predatory Hawaiian Caterpillar...

How's your week been going? Mine has been wall to wall Facebooking :)

My heart is still unsettled and I've made an appointment to see a holistic doctor in January to try to get to the bottom of things.

I will not be beaten! :)

Hubby and I saw The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at the weekend. It was an awesome movie! :)

If you enjoyed the first one or you've read the books go see it. Immediately :)

So... onto part #6 of my Facebook adventure...

If you missed the first 5 parts you can read them on my blog:

So I've now got 486 likes, up from 279 last week. Woohoo! :D

I've used up my advertising voucher, so the ads are starting to cost me cold, hard cash, which means I'm having to pay a bit more attention.

If you remember from last time I was about to start running ads...

Images

I had chosen 3 images I thought would stand out in the sidebar and was ready to choose the demographics and fill out the other details in the Facebook ad creator.

You can upload up to 6 images, which Facebook will (in theory) split test for you (more on this later)

When you upload your images, you can get a preview of what they will look like in both the news feed and the right column.

If they're not displaying correctly you can reposition them using one of the options in the Select Images section.

You can remove the News Feed ads if you want, but I left them in...

No idea if they have been used at all - I'm sure the stats will tell me, but I haven't found where it is yet.

Headline

Fill in the Headline with something simple like:

Love Predatory Hawaiian Caterpillars?

Yes they exist. Lol!

And again the ad text is simple too...

Click “like” and share your favourite Predatory Hawaiian Caterpillars images...

The quotes around "like" are important because it makes it stand out more

Create Your Audience

Creating your audience takes a little more care.

You should know from your demographics research, which age range to choose and whether your audience is male, female or both...

So choose the corresponding age range and gender.

Location is likely to be dependent on whether you plan on using CPA offers or selling Amazon stuff or T-shirts etc.

If you're just planning on using CPA, then you may need to stick to the USA.

Precise interests is where you start to really narrow down your audience.

If you make it too broad you're going to waste money, so narrow it down to a very targeted audience.

Keep an eye on the number in the top right of the "Create your audience" section.

You want to get this to around 200-600k to start with.

Precise Interests

So, start adding precise interests - you should have some idea about this from your research.

Magazines in the niche are a good place to start.

If an interest starts with a hashtag #, then it means that related interests are included.

You can add broad categories if it's appropriate to your niche.

Just leave the rest of that section as the defaults.

But ensure that "Only people not connected to I Love Predatory Hawaiian Caterpillars" is selected.

Campaign and Budget

Next set your budget. And place your order.

$3 / day is a good amount. It should give you a lot of ad impressions without breaking the bank :)

Once you hit the green button, Facebook will ask for payment details if they're not already set up.

When I did this, it took me back to the Create Ad page again and I had to hit the green button again.

Then just wait for ad approval. This doesn't take too long - less than an hour in my experience...

Although if you have more than one ad, they approve each one separately, so they all go live at different times.

Let the campaign run for at least 4-5 days to start with until the cost settles down.

Watch The Likes Come In

And sit back and watch the likes coming in... :)

Not forgetting to keep posting of course :)

And that's all for today, folks.

Still lots to come - split testing, cutting costs, tweaking ads, building rapport with your fans and automating posting to speed things up :)

Plus eventually I'll get into actually testing some money-making strategies...

But for next time, we'll talk about split testing and tweaking ads.

Look out for my email around Wednesday next week.

Until then, happy Facebooking!
