Subject: [Adventures in Facebook #1] One Niche, Two Niche, Red Niche, Blue Niche...

And so the Facebook Adventure begins...

Hey there!

Hope you're having a spiffing week!

Me, I went through quite a rough patch over the weekend with my heart electrics playing silly beggars, but I seem to have come through the worst of it now...

Fingers crossed!

The bad bots are still occasionally trying their luck on my sites with totally random usernames, but I'm a lot more chilled about it.

At some point I may investigate Incapsula (no affiliation) to see if it can help stop the remaining bots - it stops them at DNS level. You can check it out here:

They have a free plan too :)

In the meantime I've been "working hard" on my Facebook page....

Although it doesn't really feel like work at all!

Most of the work has so far been done before I even set up the page. Things like:
  • Choosing a hot, passionate niche
  • Checking there are plenty of products to sell
  • Researching demographics ie male or female, kids or no kids, age and income etc
  • Researching similar pages that I would be competing with to see how much interaction they are getting and what sorts of things they are posting
  • Searching for possible cover photos and profile pics
This was all surprisingly time consuming.

I've never been one for patience. I was itching to get started right away, but like most things it pays to get this right at the start.

And all good things come to those who wait...

And yes we have no bananas... no wait that's Homer Simpson ;)

At first I thought the photography niche would be ideal.

I enjoy photography and I can certainly appreciate a well composed photo.

I'd be able to post photos on the page and articles and tips and eventually sell photographic equipment and Photoshop and t-shirts etc...

But I came to realise that when it comes to Amateur Photography I'm not even at the starting gate...

I was going to look like a right numpty without a lot of extra research... more work? Pah!

Not being a fake it until you make it sort and being rather allergic to extra work, I decided to look for an alternative...

I struggled for a while and spent a long time making lists of possibilities, researching them and generally agonising over it...

And then it hit me!

The perfect niche for me was something that I am passionate about myself.

Something that I know others are passionate about too.

And something where I know the market :)

I feel I can serve this market well. I know what they want. And I know how to talk their language.

And what's more I *understand* the language.

This is obviously pretty important.

I mean, if I tried to start a page about skateboarding I'm so far out of the target demographic I might as well be orbiting Jupiter!

Sure I can talk all day about Caballerials and kickflips and goofyfoots (or should that be goofyfeet?)...

But I haven't a clue what I'm saying without looking it up and pretty soon I'm going to get found out and lose followers.

But I digress... As I said, I reckon I have found the perfect niche for me...

And no I'm not going to tell you the niche just yet.

Find your own niche :P

I'm betting you're passionate about something - be it golf or baseball or the Interplanetary Speed Embroidery Cup ;)

My page may be successful. It may not. But my inside knowledge of the subject gives me a much better chance.

Plus I've never had so much fun working in my entire life. It feels like I've been slacking off all week. Lol!

This email is in danger of taking on epic proportions, so I'll end here and tell you all about the adventures I had with setting up the page and getting the cover image to fit next time...

Look out for part #2 of my Adventures in Facebook in your inbox in the next couple of days...

To your success!

About the Author: Sally Lazarus is an Internet Marketer, wife, mother and massive geek…

She started out as a programmer many moons ago, before the Internet as we know it today was born… No, not when dinosaurs roamed the Earth! She's not that old! How rude! :P

She's been working online since late 2011. She doesn't claim to know it all. She's still learning too, but she wants to share her knowledge with you and help you succeed online.

She's an ethical marketer and loves helping people to reach their goals. When she sends out a promotion it will always be well thought out, even if it means sending it a day or two after launch.

She will investigate it properly beforehand, get hold of a review copy or buy it herself. She wouldn't recommend anything that she didn't believe in or wouldn't use herself.

Her aim is to save you time by doing the research for you, to make it easier for you to figure out if a particular product is likely to be able to help you reach your goals.
