Subject: Vote NO on Charter Amendments

Fellow Winter Park Residents,

Please share with friends and neighbors.

Winter Park has a minority problem. It is not a racial, ethic, religious, or skin color minority problem. The problem is that a significant minority of voters determine the outcome of Winter Park elections.

On average, candidates in Winter Park commission elections win with support from less than 20% of registered voters. We are already ruled by an extreme minority.

This minority city commission has placed the following extreme Charter Amendments on the March 8, 2022 ballot:

  1. Question #1: Require Supermajority Vote to Sell Real Property

  2. Question #2: Require Supermajority Vote to Rezone Parks and Public Lands

  3. Question #3: Require Supermajority Vote for Residential and Lakefront Property Map Amendments

  4. Question #4: Require Supermajority Vote for Density/Intensity Increases

  5. Question #5: Require Supermajority Vote to Approve Development in Wetlands

  6. Question #6: Ordinance Changes During Adoption Process Require Additional Vote

"Supermajority" amendments 1 to 5 give a minority of commissioners the power to block change. Proposed charter amendment 6 drags out the approval process for changes in our local laws. These are very bad ideas that will deter investment, paralyze Winter Park, and make serving on the city commission meaningless.

Past commissions seated independent Charter Review Task Forces to consider charter amendments. These proposed charter amendments are sourced in personal biases current commissioners wish to impose on future generations of Winter Park residents.

VOTE NO ON ALL CHARTER AMENDMENTS IN THE MARCH ELECTION.

Regards, Pete
