Subject: Charter Amendments - Former Commissioner Seidel Recommends "NO"

Fellow Winter Park Residents,

Please share with friends and neighbors.

Former City Commissioner Greg Seidel is voting "NO" on all five charter amendments that would require super majority voting. Greg details his reasoning as follows:

Why I am voting against the the super majority changes to the charter.

The simple answer - a 50%+1 vote will require an 80% vote on items that restrict development. Were I on the commission, I would have asked that the charter changes require a 60% threshold to make sure that we really had consensus. Which means I don't necessarily disagree with the intent of some of the items. Just the lack of consensus building.

Having been on the commission for 5 years and paying attention to elections the last two years, I have personally witnessed both sides of Winter Park do the same things and complain about the other sides. I have tried my best to get both sides to work together and was extremely disappointed to see how untruthful people could be.

We went through a Visioning process and then had a very mixed team of people develop the original Orange Avenue overlay. I still get emails that misrepresent the two large properties and one mid sized property. There were very many positive outcomes from the overlay such as additional green space along with significant intersection improvements that would be under construction today and a trail connection from Denning to the Orlando Urban trail.

I bring this up not stir up angst, but to let people know, that we are better together and better when we have honest opinion and discussion. The current super majority proposals, if passed, will create more division. I always think people have the best of intentions but don't always think of the unintended consequences. I worry that years of continued animosity will be result of these being passed.

Respectfully, Greg Seidel

Regards, Pete
