CDC Eviction Moratorium Expected To Be Extended A Month!
Well it just does not seem right but apparently, any day now, it is expected that the Biden Administration plans to extend the CDC eviction moratorium.
Despite finding in several jurisdictions that this government action is unlawful, there will be another 30 days of protection for tenants added. The administration is claiming this will allow more time for housing aid to be distributed and more housing initiatives to be discussed including: - a summit on housing affordability and evictions, to be held at the White House later this month;
- stepped-up coordination with local officials and legal aid organizations to minimize evictions after July 31;
- new guidance from the Treasury Department meant to streamline the sluggish disbursement of the $21.5 billion in emergency aid included in the pandemic relief bill in the spring.
As many of you have seen, we have been successful at either evicting non-paying tenants or insisting that ones who file the CDC declaration apply for rental assistance. It looks like we will continue down this path for another 30 days.
While the arguments are plenty why this moratorium is not helping housing at all, it is a fact. Finding solutions for our clients to live within it's reality continues to be a major emphasis for us.
Stay Safe!
