At the start of 2019, I'm yearning for creative possibility and looking back over a year that was uncertain. I'm sure this is true for you, too. Maybe the gutters needed repair, this kid struggled in school and that one outgrew his room; your partner sank into depression; you changed jobs; the doctor needed a closer look after an exam. With so much work and worry in the day-to-day, do we dare play? Do we create? When, how?
Play opens a hundred creativity streams. It relaxes the brain, pulling your subconscious into pattern-making, story-telling, and skill building, effortlessly.
And play is always available.
Playful, dynamic, soul-nourishing writing is available anytime - especially in an advanced Wildfire Writing class, or in a coaching session, tailored just for you.
No matter what life is looking like.
Sure, there's a Codger in your head saying you're too busy or bummed out, or demanding that you "accomplish something." But if you will regularly make writing play your practice, it can and will ease your heart, lift your mood, and even foster a sense of accomplishment.
As you know. As you've experienced before.
Did you get a little sidetracked?
Last night I was chatting with a dear writing friend, Julia, about a book dream that I stopped pursuing. "It's not over," she said. "It's just being rerouted."
We laughed at the idea of a smartphone recalculating our life and writing. But it's a fitting image. There's no shame or disappointment or loss at a changed route. It's just a thing that happens. All the time.
I didn't reach this writing destination the way I thought I would. What's new?
It's time to jump back in again. With play.
As I've said before, when waiting for the right conditions, we're perpetuating the myth that perfect conditions will exist, ever.
Life won't be what you expect in 2019. So go ahead and put out more words, experiences, curiosities, poems, memoirs, and stories. At this moment, you may have no inkling of them whatsoever.
Come and join me in practice-and-play, whether yoga, writing, or group sharing, and we'll exult together amidst all the uncertainty.
