"Mystery is at the heart of creativity. That, and surprise."
--Julia Cameron |
| An awesome thing happens when you stop trying to control the creative process, or "be good." By simply allowing your creativity to take over, gifts show up to astound you. This past year I've been surprised by open doors, new friends and my own boldness. At times I've been knocked off balance - yet each moment brought the chance to be fully alive.
For the first time, my artwork is being featured in a gallery show. Conference organizers are approaching me requesting workshops, rather than the other way around. And I'm getting so comfortable in any venue, I no longer feel like the shy person I always thought I was.
This past year, I watched surprise unfold for writers and creators in my classes and workshops, too.
- A fledgling fiction writer in the Thursday morning class drafted a novel in 30 days
- A coach embraced her inner artist and started painting
- A wordsmith picked up the pen after 25 years of not writing
What about you? What surprises await in 2014?
Tip: if you want your surprises to be creative ones, you'll have to do some creating . . .

Christi's private critique class for writers is expanding - with room for one or two to more. This is for those of you needing in-depth feedback on novels, memoirs, short stories and other work, as well as accountability every time we meet. You'll find an incredibly supportive group that ascribes to the Wildfire Writing method of seeking more rather than tearing down.
