This is a very important newsletter pointing to our latest blog post.
In short?
We have invented a new and improved way of using Power BI Cloud Service to perform direct query on Business Central On Premise data.
Indeed, this new and improved method can be used to query data on any on premise server using Power BI Cloud.
We are sticking to SQL Server but we believe it works for PostGres and other databases as well.
Fundamentally, to get around the issue of 1,800+ tables in Business Central we use a test database to create the Power BI semantic model.
We then repoint that semantic model to the larger suite of views.
This new idea can be used to give Power BI access to any large data warehouse or opertional system exposing data using a pseudo dimensional model.
