Thank you for being on our Newsletter email list!
We really appreciate you!
In our previous Newsletter we sent you two video links to show you how to query Navision 2018 using Meta5.
This included adding over 5,000 joins to the Meta5 dictionary.
This made it possible to query all the tables in the Navision demonstration database.
We also included a searchable spreadsheet of the dictionary.
In this Newsletter we are bringing you something in addition to this, and it is very cool.
Of course, the Navision database is complex enough that no GUI based query tool on the planet can generate all the queries that are needed.
Some days you just have to roll your sleeves up and write SQL to get the answer you want out of Navision.
In this blog post we show you how it is possible to:
- Write SQL in any editor you want.
- Save it in a windows file.
- Load it into a table.
- Read it using Meta5.
- Update parameters.
- Send it to a remote Navision Server.
- Retrieve the results.
- Send the results into Excel.
Fundamentally, this demonstration shows you that it's possible to write any SQL and send it to an ODBC compliant data source, as long as the SQL is consumable by that data source.
This means Meta5 can retrieve data from a very wide range of data sources and send that data into Excel.
This can be done in a parameterized, repeatable, scheduled and controlled fashion.
This is very exciting for us because there are millions and millions of people who want a better way of getting data into Excel than the Power Query Data Editor.
We believe Meta5 is exactly that.
