When things feel tough, as they do for so many people, for so many reasons, there can be a sense of powerlessness. While we can’t fix everything, it can help to take yourself right back to basics. You’ll often see lists of self-care activities and sometimes they don’t resonate so strongly with how you cope.
Get out a pen and paper and write two lists. One is a list of activities and things that have a proven history of helping you get through. The other is a list of the things that hinder you. This becomes the settings you can tweak.
Perhaps you’ll discover you need fewer press conferences and more music. Maybe it’s about more time in the sun, reading a book and less time hunched over the infinite scroll at 1am. It could be about more time walking, listening to audiobooks or more time on the phone with friends. Maybe it’s more indoor plants, more days where you make the bed, earlier showers, more time enjoying a skin-care routine, more writing or drawing or art. It could be more time in the garden, more meditation, or more frequent appointments with a psychologist. It could be more full-throttle workouts. It could be fewer workouts, less clutter, or firmer boundaries with family … |
