Subject: So many things happened this week!💌 - SimplyCubaTours

Hola Friend,

How are you this week? So many things have happened!

Most exciting is that many of you can now travel and see your loved ones! I am genuinely happy for you. I am especially glad to see that one of our supporters will get to make it back to Cuba for his son's first birthday! How awesome is that 💕

Well a little longer wait for me, although will try to apply for exemption, but flights out of Australia are few and far between... so I will just have to cheer you on! ☺

Travel updates!

where to start...

Since 19 October 2020, Cuba has opened its doors to international tourists in all areas but Havana, Sancti Spiritus and Ciego de Avila.

This means that you can now visit family and friends and stay in casas!

In saying that Cuba is now open, that doesn't mean all flights will resume.

Unfortunately the airlines will base their routes and flights on financial viability. So we have seen flights that were booked being cancelled after the re-opening day and rescheduled to a month later. Whilst at the same time other routes/airlines sold out within minutes.

There's also local changes around the world, so whilst Cuba is accepting visitors, your own country will have changing rules for the country and may be even within the state. So many moving pieces to keep up with 🤦‍♀️

One is the PCR testing...

Some airlines do it, others don't. Some countries require you to do one prior to you exiting the country, others don't. Some will have a 14 day quarantine on return, others may have a quarantine, but if you opted for two PCR tests on your return you don't have to quarantine.

What we can confirm is that upon arrival to Cuba you will have to complete a PCR test and a health declaration.

The other thing is regarding luggage. Cuba will allow two 32kg suitcases to enter with you. But, just because they allow it, doesn't mean the airline you are travelling with will allow it. So make sure you check their rules around luggage.

Casas are open, of course there are rules around this. They have to ensure they use disinfectants, supply sanitiser and report people with viral symptoms, among other things.

Car rental is available again. International Marinas restarted. Trains, buses, catamarans restarted. Other tourist activities will be restarted based on demand.

If you are taking public transport in Cuba, make sure you stick to the marked spots to be utilised.

What about flights?

So far that all sounds positive.. but wait, there's more!

So I did tell you that some airlines cancelled flights that were already booked. I feel that is unfortunately the way things will go for a while, because let's face it, they are trying to make money whilst flying people, so will only take off if the flight is commercially viable..

In saying that we have had reports on some airlines opening up their routes soon...

German airline, Condor will begin to fly from 31 October and offer 3 weekly flights. from Frankfurt and Dusseldorf to Varadero, on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Spanish airline, Iberia will have two weekly flights to Havana once it opens on Fridays and Saturdays. At this stage, plan is to start in November.

Russian airline Aeroflot has been flying to Santa Clara and Cayo Coco since 14 October. And Azur Air will follow suit from November.

Canadian airline OWG will start in November from Toronto to Jardines del Rey, Cayo Santa Maria and Holguin. Whilst Air Canada keeps their weekly flights to Cayo Coco.

Mexican airline Viva Aerobus will fly from next month to Camaguey and Santiago de Cuba.

Whilst Copa Airlines from Panama has already sold out for next month!

What's on the blog this week?

Actually ended up putting out three blogs last week, you can head to our site to check them out.

Since I have been gushing about the diving tour, I thought I'd best share an amazing diving spot with you!

Isla de Juventud - just stunning! It also has some amazing birds 😉 so when you are not diving, you can listen to the birds chirping. Heaven!
