Subject: Should you travel to Cuba right now? - 💌 SimplyCubaTours

After cyclone Ian, this is certainly a question we have been asked...

Hola Friend,

Como estas? Hope you are well. We have been working away keenly on this end on a new system to help us showcase our tours better and to make the customer journey easier. We'll have that all up and ready by the next newsletter. Very excited about it to say the least.

Meanwhile you may have seen some news after Cyclone Ian hit Cuba... needless to say that the Western part of the island, like our favourite place, Vinales has been badly affected. The power was out in some instances for about 10 days, properties were damaged, livestock and crops were lost. It was a rather sad state. Even the mountain town of Soroa, some 200km away has seen some bad damage to property.

This disaster then had a knock on effect and there have been some peaceful demonstrations around the island. These are starting to settle down as electricity is restored.

We have cancelled all tours for 2022 - except for our end of November Simply Cuba Tour (as both us and our providers are hopeful), in saying that, we want to allow the recovery efforts. We want to ensure that our travelers are safe and that our providers have a chance to rebuild without any added stress.

It is the last thing this beautiful island needed! If you'd like to support the Cuban people, you can do so via Together for Cuba. Jennifer does an amazing job at supplying medical aid, food supplies and assistance for the rebuild. She was on the ground when this tragedy was unfolding and experienced it first hand.

We hope that by January 2023 we can resume normal operations, God knows the people of Cuba who are relying on tourism for income are ready!

On a positive note, we'd like to introduce our expert bird specialist on our latest blog - Nils Navarro.

Nils has curated, written and illustrated the Endemic Birds of Cuba book. He is truly passionate about Cuban birds, and you couldn't find anyone better to introduce you and educate you about these beautiful - and mostly endangered - creatures.

He has been working hard on his latest project, cataloguing Cuban birds and has found 40 new species this year! incredible and we can definitely say that we are looking forward to his new book.

If you are a 'bird nerd' (as our photographer Kate put it) - then you may wish to join Nils, we feel that tapping into his expertise is priceless!

Meanwhile, if you would like to learn more about him, read our blog today.

Hasta luego,

Orsolya x
