Subject:ย Latest Cuba Update ๐Ÿ’Œ - SimplyCuba

Hola Friend,

How are you on this wonderful day? Did you have a good week?

Here in Australia the weather is getting better, at least I can start enjoying sunshine and with that my 3 daily walks, which is the most exciting thing I can think of right now with no border opens in sight this end. ๐Ÿ˜€ And it is important to get sunshine and exercise, it gets the endorphins going and keeps the mindset in check!

I am a fan of a positive mindset, yet this year's 'Are you OK' day got me a little riled up. Firstly because I think that question should not be confined to one designated day and asked because we have massive advertising campaign on, I feel we should ask it every day! And especially ask those who have been kept from their loved ones because of border closures among other people ๐Ÿ’•

I hope you are OK! These are challenging times, but we will get through it! Just take it one day at a time, make sure that you connect in some way, have some common goals ahead and that you look after you in the mean time. I know video chat is not the same as a real hug, (10 months and counting ๐Ÿ˜ง) but trust that we will get back to the arms of our loved ones soon... ๐Ÿ˜˜

And after the heavies let's look at what is happening around the place...

Travel Updates

I have to thank the wonderful people on our page providing the above pictures. So nice to see the vintage cars of Cuba being loved so much. ๐Ÿ’•

I have to clear up one of the things I have posted last week. Our source advised that travelers at the Cayos were confined to their hotels and it's area. We have since got confirmation from a holidayer in the area that they can in fact enjoy all the activities in the Cayos, can rent a car or scooter to drive around as long as they do not go into the main island. That was so exciting to hear! Even if it isn't helping us move forward yet, it is looking much more positive for the future! ๐Ÿ‘“๐Ÿ’ƒ๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ

Authorities have also confirmed that all that arrived were tested and none of the tourist carried the virus. Excellent to hear! As the second thing I was corrected on was that Canada Air is still considering introducing PCR testing on their end, and haven't yet started. So we will keep an eye on that.

IATA is recommending for this practice to be introduced as long as it doesn't slow the check in process or add to cost of travel. Some airlines have already introduced these practices and have stopped traveler who tested positive on getting on the plane. So we have to watch this space!

The next change is that Varadero Airport is having its final tests before re-opening in October. Dates are not set, but i have checked with our agent who has seen flights from as early as 11 October in the system. At this stage it would be the same deal as the Cayos, hotel stays only. I know all inclusive stays are not everyone's cup of tea. Certainly not what we are about... ๐Ÿ˜‰

There have been no further developments on reopening thing or moving the island as a whole onto phase 3. In fact in some affected areas, like Sancti Spiritus, this week has seen curfews introduced and schools closed and there are some areas where official offices have been closed along with schools and the next potential control steps are being talked of. Will just have to keep an eye on how things develop.

In the mean time Simply Cuba has pushed out tour start dates to January 2021 to ensure that everything is back to high safety levels before we accept visitors. Hopefully everything will be back to a state where we can offer our services again.๐Ÿ˜Ž

And while we are on that subject, I want to tell you a little bit more about us...

Simply Cuba

You may have seen our video on the site this week introducing Yoanis and I (if not, head over to youtube). You have seen me around ๐Ÿ˜€ In case you are wondering about Yoanis, I included his picture. I know I am bias, but even our clients will tell you he is the best tour guide in Cuba!

He is born and bred Cuban and has been taking people on tours for over 14 years and his dream was always to be a Tour Guide so he can show his beautiful country to visitors! Our mission is to create a trip of a life time with you and to immerse you into a real Cuban experience.

Which is why, we never stay in hotels. We opt to use the services of Casa particulares, because they are owner by the Cuban people privately. So when we stay with them we support the Cuban people and we also get to show you their hospitality. Which is fantastic.

We also use the services of the local drivers, restaurants and guides for that same reason as well. We want to make sure that we are letting you mingle with the locals, learn from the locals and support the people so you can learn more about the people and culture. We feel it gives a much better experience.

If you haven't seen our tours yet, or wonder what they are about, I'd encourage you to check out our Small Group Tours page for more information. Hope to make your next trip magical!

What's on the blog this week?

When I first visited Cuba, I put aside all that I have heard ever before... which to be honest wasn't too much, and certainly wasn't positive... But, the place always intrigued me, so I decided to create my own experience, based on what I discovered for myself.

Learning about Che and his history was something I certainly didn't get in the history classes, so I found it all quite interesting. Truth? Propaganda? Hero? or Not? I am not here to argue, you can make your own mind up. He is certainly an interesting part of Cuban History.
