Subject: Last week's changes in Cuba 💌 - SimplyCubaTours

Hola Friend,

I'd like to say a massive 'Thank you!' to all who sent birthday wishes for Yoanis. It lit up his day 💕

Probably the best thing that happened last week... How are your areas going? Here in Australia we were about to have some positive changes with borders opening up internally, although some with restrictions. But then we have seen one of the internal borders close within hours as new cases emerged in that particular state, and now they are back on full lock down. 😢 Hopefully it won't mean that my state goes back to complete hard border closures again...

Apart from that I have realised I haven't had a break in 330 days... wow. No wonder I have taken the damaged car door to be the beach! If you are not sure what I am referring to, here is the link: The Beach

Hope you are holding up OK in this challenging environment, and looking after yourselves!

Now let's look at some travel updates...

Travel updates!

Havana has opened on 15 November as planned! WOOHOO 💃

But, Pinar del Rio is now shut down as their new cases keep on growing. This means casas and hotels are now closed again in this region. Also Ciego de Avila and Sancti Spiritus provinces are still closed at this time.

Apart from that some of the changes this week were relating to being charged 40CUC for PCR test upon arrival and departure. There is certainly a lot of confusion around this. Latest i have seen that the test upon departure may be free, and will only be required to those travelers who need to provide this in their home country upon return. I feel we need to comment watch this space as it seems to change constantly.

Other changes are that Cuba will no longer accept cash for car rentals. Transtur announced that all payments (deposits and other charges) will need to be paid for by credit or debit card. So if you were thinking of renting a car for your stay, make sure you have credit cards that are accepted in Cuba.

What do you actually need to enter Cuba these days?

There have been some confusion in the last week regarding entry requirements as a few things changed with Havana coming online....

To clear it up, we can confirm that everyone will have to complete a Health Declaration (with the address of where they will be staying) and have a PCR test. There is a charge of USD$30 for the PCR test. The cost is payable by credit card, or in USD or GBP or Euros cash, if it is not included in the flight ticket. Travel insurance with cover for COVID-19 is required.

Visitors arriving on commercial flights will have to self-isolate and have a further PCR test. On receipt of a second, negative PCR test result, you will no longer have to self-isolate.

It's also recommended that you keep in touch with your airline/travel agent as things can change quickly, like the closure of borders. So you may need assistance to get back home quickly.

What's on the blog this week?

Have you ever ventured out as far as Camaguey? If you are after art and culture, this is the place to be!

Whether you like amazing architecture, the ballet, or art galleries you will find it in this UNESCO World heritage site. And once you are cultured out, they also have some great rum tasting bars...
