Hey Friend


This is Filene our Ficus tree. She is almost as old as I am and we have literally grown up together ❤ 

This picture is my metaphor for life and especially 2020

She has just had her 2nd winter pruning. This was a small one compared to the first.

I had a huge garbage bag filled with branches that were no longer serving her. As you can see the there were still more branches that needed to be trimmed.

Angelus almost had a heart attack when he saw me doing this....lol
Every time I cut something he said that is good enough I think you should stop.

I know I felt the same way when my friend who is an arborist pruned her 20 years ago. He pruned her even better than I have the guts to do.

I cried a lot
 
I swear I thought she was dead. She looked worse than Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree

I cried....alot

He explained that this was necessary for her to grow and to keep her strong.

Trimming old branches and other little saplings allow the main branches to be nourished and keep the tree alive
 
A Ficus tree that is too full is not necessarily healthy and happy even though it looks pretty
 
All those branches put undue stress on the tree and it cannot manage its nutrition supply.

Trimming the tree to the main branches allow the tree to grow, have healthy leaves and grow stronger.

I will share a picture of her this summer to show you.

What we call disasters and tragedies is just life pruning us back to grow stronger and in a healthier more balanced way 


You are just like this Tree

Just like a tree the most important part to tend to is our roots and that means pruning the leaves every season so it can thrive.

When it happens all you can think is will we survive this because it looks really bad.

She needed this and what she does now that she is less encumbered is going to be amazing.

Moral of this story....2020 was a severe pruning for all of us. Watch what grows in your life in 2021 because of it.
