Hi It is Kim,
I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving experience where ever you were this weekend.
For us this weekend was one of gratitude, grief and flan.
This is a very hard email to write.
On Halloween of this year My mom Connie passed away unexpectedly. She had been dealing with health issues for a few years and needed to go to the hospital for assistance with her diuretics'. It was meant to be a short hospital stay that turned out to be her last stand.
Needless to say grief has definitely arrived at our door but also invited and greeted is gratitude for her life well lived and loved.
It will be an interesting journey going forward for sure.
As you know where ever I go and what ever twist and turn life hands me I do my best to show up human and share what I am learning. Here is what I have so far....
FEEL THE GRIEF
If you know me I love feelings but have a hard time owning them. They used to scare me a lot. This loss is too big to pretend it is not happening.
Allowing the grief to be apart of daily life feels yucky and lucky at the same time. With grief comes endings and new beginnings.
I don't like it but it definitely has lessons to share and is allowing me to open up to ideas and love I wasn't paying attention to before.
Scheduling time to just feel it really helps manage the anxiety and fear of not getting everything done while allowing time to connect and remember what was and what still is.
GIVE THANKS AND GRATITUDE
I have always talked about the power of gratitude. It is the great equalizer in any situation. It is a fabulous life preserver to wrap yourself around in times of great transition and change.
Focusing on what we have helps us connect and experience more of that while allowing us to remember what is leaving is never really gone; just making room for something bigger and needed in this time.
CREATE NEW TRADITIONS - Do Something New
Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are my favorite times of the year. Being with family and sharing good food is what I look for all year long.
I usually show up with the bakery bought deserts and help to open the wine....lol
Not being able to be with them for the holiday never mind the 1st one without my mom was daunting. And this year the cooking was all up to me so I decided to add something new that I have never done to the menu....FLAN!!!! |
