Subject: Friend, Remembering Myanmar…

Dear Friend,

As you are a committed supporter of the ministry of Five Talents, we are requesting you pray for our program partners in Myanmar. As widely shared in the news, the situation in Myanmar continues to be dire. Our local partners are urgently requesting prayer for a peaceful reconciliation in the political landscape of the country. We are grateful to share this small update with you.

As a request from our partner in Myanmar, we ask that you recognize this as a personal update just for you. Kindly do not forward it onto others, in consideration for the safety of our local partners and the communities they serve.

Just over two years ago, we were fortunate to visit our program partners in Myanmar. We met with a team of over 40 enthusiastic local leaders from around the country who gathered together for a Business Management training workshop. This training equipped these leaders to provide the business course to Savings Groups across the country. It was a meaningful time of great hope and encouraging fellowship.

Little did we know, our trip was at the beginning of the emergence of Covid-19 in Asia. We were so grateful to have had the opportunity to do the trip before travel internationally was shut down a few weeks after our return. The year following that was an inspiration to see how our program partners adjusted to the global pandemic in ministering to their communities and helping those in the most dire need.

Then one year ago, political turmoil hit Myanmar once again. With heavy shifts in the political landscape of the country, our program partners had to show their resilience once again as day-to-day activities drastically changed.

We are remembering that precious time of our visit very fondly now and how inspiring and enthusiastic the leaders were for providing skills and opportunities to people in their communities.

We continue to learn that fellowship within Savings Group members is a critical part of getting through times of hardship. The opportunity for sharing, encouraging, and caring for each other builds greatly on the impact of saving and learning together. Despite the challenges in the past year, several new Savings Groups have started. We are learning about what courage, trust and resilience can look like from our partners.

Please join us in continuing to pray for them!
