Subject: We will rejoice and be glad

Dear friend,

“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” This seems like a simple statement from the book of Psalms; however, life is not simple.

Each day is a gift, and we can count our blessings, live in joy, and give thanks for many things. Nonetheless, life is not perfect for anyone. We all struggle with challenges, and our program participants worldwide deal every day with some combination of inadequate food, education, healthcare, job opportunities, or security. Even today, the Coronavirus delta variant is causing fear where many of our participants live and where healthcare systems are very fragile.

And yet, we hear frequently of how much our participants are grateful; they find many things to rejoice over. And we at Five Talents take immense joy in working to transform lives through supporting the vulnerable, restoring human dignity, and creating stronger communities. We have enjoyed the process of continual learning and advancing our efforts to create a better tomorrow for our brothers and sisters who are persevering through extreme poverty.

Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, urged them to value others above themselves and to consider the interests of others. This is what we are privileged to do each day in our work at Five Talents, and because we do, this is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Until next Monday morning,
