Subject: Suleyman and Fatimah

Dear Friend,

You’d be surprised how often I hear stories of people who have had to flee their homes because of violence, hunger, or other life-threatening problems.

Today, I’m grateful to share the story of a family that hasn't had to move against their will - and while their stability depends on their bravery, their Savings Group also plays a key role.

Suleyman and Fatimah live in South Sudan's Bahr al Ghazal (“Sea of Gazelles”) region.

With Five Talents’ support, 31 members of a Savings Group there are protecting their families from South Sudan’s poverty, hunger, flooding, and inter-communal violence.

Suleyman and Fatimah have borrowed from the group to buy fertilizer and hire help to farm more land. They now have a chicken and 30 goats, and can feed their boy and girl!

This is the wealth that the Group has brought them, they say. It’s preventing them from falling into the hunger and despair that blights so many lives in South Sudan.

Moreover, unlike many of their neighbors, they haven't had to cross the border to seek work or humanitarian relief in nearby Sudan.

“Many people think that running to Sudan is the way to respond to all problems,” says Suleyman. “But we can solve our problems with the tools and resources we have as a result of this group."

Because of the Savings Group, he and Fatimah have even been able to take their children to the hospital!

This is the life-changing difference you’re helping to make. Thank you for believing in people like Fatimah and Suleyman.

With heartfelt gratitude,
