Subject: A Humanitarian Crisis Emerging

Dear Friend,

I want to update you on the situation with our program in Renk, South Sudan, that I told you about recently. I’m deeply saddened and concerned about the news reports coming out of the area, such as this article in The Guardian:  https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2023/may/05/sudans-neighbours-warn-they-have-little-to-offer-refugees?CMP=oth_b-aplnews_d-1

Numerous news reports, including the BBC, show how the devastating conflict in Sudan is wreaking havoc in the Renk area due to lack of food and supplies. Refugees from Sudan are risking their lives to cross into South Sudan and other neighboring countries and are finding these areas have little assistance to offer. Our program staff there, Ajak, shared that the church is responding and hosting people who have fled Sudan and crossed the border to Renk. They are using church facilities to accommodate refugees who are mostly women and children.

Please join me in prayer for this growing humanitarian crisis and specifically for the resilience of our program team in Renk.

Until next time,

Dale Stanton-Hoyle
