Hi Friend,

I hope this message finds you well and that you're taking some time to recharge and do something that fills you up on this Sunday (or whatever day is your "Sunday" if you're not off work on the weekends). We all need it - now more than ever.

I'm a sucker for a cappella and wanted to share this virtual (quarantine-inspired) rendition of For the Longest Time that my Dad passed along. It's right up there with this one of Alicia Keys at home, which I shared a while back. I hope they bring a smile to your face and a reminder that we're all in this together!

Here's this week's Health Hack, a natural wine special, and a couple of delicious recipes. Enjoy!

Health Hack: Get Outside Every Morning

Health Hack: Get outside in the morning

One of the simplest things you can do for your health is to be mindful about light exposure. Getting bright light in your eyes first thing is a powerful signal for your circadian rhythm. It helps wake you up by producing cortisol, tells your body to slow melatonin production until evening (a major cancer fighter btw), both of which set you up for better sleep. Well functioning circadian rhythms (and good sleep) help regulate hormones, mood, appetite, and energy levels. Ideally, you want to get 10+ mins of natural light within an hour of waking (no sunglasses).

I'll cover tips for the evening in a future post!

Summer Whites

My go-to for natural wine, Dry Farm Wines*, is doing a Summer Whites promotion that I wanted to share. Most of their wine is sold to subscribers, but this is an opportunity to purchase a one-time order that includes four rare whites: a sugar free Riesling, a rare Italian Fiano, and two crisp, refreshing Grüners.

Here's more on why I love Dry Farm Wines and why I've partnered with them (a level of endorsement that I take very seriously):

  • ALL their wines meet very strict purity criteria. Their list of criteria is long, but here’s an idea:

    • Sugar free. All wines contain 0 - 0.15g of total sugar per glass (dramatically less than conventional wine, making them Paleo and Keto friendly).

    • Organically farmed. No pesticides, herbicides, or other harmful chemicals.

    • No industrial additives. No thickeners, dyes, or taste modifiers.

    • Lower alcohol. All wines are 12.5% alcohol or less.

    • Lower sulfites. All wines are less than 75 parts per million sulfur.

    • Only wild yeasts. No lab made or GMO yeasts.

Click here to check out the Summer Whites (available through Tues, July 28). And if you're interested in exploring a subscription, click here and you can get an extra bottle for $.01 as a Kaleifornian reader! There are several options and you can cancel at any time. I'm a white/red combo gal, myself!

Mason jar of herby vinigiarette

Check out this simple Herby Vinaigrette recipe. It's the perfect way to use up your herbs and it keeps for about a week in the fridge. Not only is it bright and delicious, but here's more on some of the powerful health benefits of eating fresh herbs.

Need something to pair this with? May I suggest: my Italian Chopped Salad (vegetarian) or the Jerusalem Salad (tomato, cucumber & parsley) I shared a few weeks ago. Yum, yum, yum!

Pork and Green Bean Stir Fry

My family can't get enough of this Pork and Green Bean Stir Fry. After making it several times and seeing it also become a new favorite in my sister's household, I'm so excited to share the recipe with you!

Have a look in the comments section for some modification ideas from both of my sisters. Hope you love it as much as we do!

Thank you so much for reading and for staying connected during this crazy time! Wishing you a safe and healthy week ahead.

Be well,

Jess XO
