Hi Friend, I hope you've had a great week! Today's email is a little different than usual. In addition to a new recipe, I'm including a rundown of a few things that I've been loving (and why), since I receive a lot of questions about the products I like. Let me know what you think about this format. As always, I appreciate your feedback and any topic requests!
New recipe post this week: Healthy Curry Chicken Salad. I've always loved curry chicken salad, but after I started avoiding vegetable oils, I cut out prepared salads because they’re full of conventional mayo (canola oil is usually the first ingredient--yuck). So, I started to make my own! It's easy and really delicious. Since I typically only use half a chicken for my Instant Pot Chicken Soup (awesome recipe btw, if I do say so myself...!), this is a great way to use up the rest of the chicken.
If you like this or any of my other recipes, would you you please do me a big favor and leave a star rating on my website? I'd really appreciate it! |
| | A few things I've been into lately:
In the kitchen
- Airtight Silicone Lids by Five Two (in-house line from Food52*). I don't use plastic for food storage and these have been a great addition to my kitchen. I use them to store leftovers and food I've prepped in ceramic, glass or metal bowls. They can also be used while cooking! It's nice that they don't get too hot like a metal lid.
- Sharp knives! This was on my to-do list forever, and I couldn't find a convenient place to get them sharpened. I found The Art of Sharp and decided to send our knives to them while we were on vacation. It was reasonable and Frank timed the return perfectly. I'm so happy I did this! If you cook regularly, this is one of those little things that can make a big difference. It's also safer than using dull knives.
- Modest Mylk. I bought packaged coconut almond milk for years, tried this a few months ago and haven't looked back. These are nut bases that I use to make my own milk (mylk?). I blend a few scoops with filtered water and store it in a glass carafe (I make a double batch ~every five days). It helps reduce plastic waste, exposure to plastic packaging, and unwanted fillers and binders that are in most store-bought nut milks. I often do some combination of cashew, almond, macadamia nut, and coconut. There's a link to buy in the Pantry section of my Favorites* page.
At the gym
- New workout clothes by Pineapple Clothing*. I recently got back into more intense exercise and was desperately in need of some fresh workout clothes. I was drawn to this brand because their products are reasonably priced, unique (read: some very funky prints), eco-friendly, and USA-made. I have pieces from the Tropical Dream, Wild & Free, & Mercury collections. If you like any of their pieces, use the code JESTUR at checkout for 20% off.
In my glass
- Natural wine from Dry Farm Wines*. I've been a customer for a while, but I'm getting more and more into natural wine and recently upped my subscription. I'll do a full blog post soon, but I'll just say this: if you avoid processed foods, artificial additives, and highly sprayed produce (here are the most important things to buy organic - grapes are #6 on the list)... I recommend looking into natural wine. If you'd like to try out Dry Farm Wine, you can get an extra bottle of wine for $0.01 if you buy through this link.
