Hi Friend,

Happy Sunday! I hope you've had a beautiful first week of summer. Even in these strange times, there are plenty of special things we can still savor.  I'm happy to be in shorts everyday, outdoors, and enjoying all the seasonal produce. I hope you find ways to safely enjoy some of your favorite parts of this magical season as well!

Here’s this week's rundown. As always, please let me know if you have any comments or questions - I always love hearing from you!

Podcast: 8 Powerful Ways to Manage Stress

This episode is a compilation of several different interviews on The Model Health Show that cover stress-management techniques and ways to build resilience as we face the inevitable stressors of life. Some were new ideas to me and others were great reminders that I really needed to hear. I especially enjoyed some of the points made around the section on media / technology. (here it is on YouTube as well).

Health Hack: Turn on Your Vent

I think of "Health Hacks" as small, everyday things we can do to improve our health and reduce exposure to toxins. This week, I shared a post on the toxic byproducts of cooking with gas and how to greatly reduce that exposure. Takeaway: always use your exhaust vent, cook on rear burners and open windows as much as possible, keep a carbon monoxide detector in your kitchen, and use an air purifier if possible (the one we use is on my Favorites* page). My husband has always been good about this and I appreciated this article from the Guardian that my sister passed along with more details.

Roasted Tofu & Broccoli Bowls

Check out this yummy one-pan recipe for roasted tofu and broccoli. It's great on its own or as a bowl, served on greens, rice, or quinoa. Easy toppings like sesame seeds, shredded cabbage, carrots, kimchi, green onion, or sliced bell peppers are great additions!

Jerusalem Salad

So many people commented on this salad picture that I wanted to share the simple recipe. It tastes like summer and comes together quickly! It's just chopped tomatoes, cucumbers and parsley (and red onion if you have it, but not necessary). Then dressed in EVOO, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Simple and delicious.

New Favorites!

I've added a few new products to my Favorites* page that I wanted to callout and share:

  • Pique Tea: once I learned about the presence of microplastics in tea (released from the bags and sealants), I went on a mission to find healthy tea because I drink a lot of it.  In that process, I learned that many teas (including my beloved matcha) can have other toxins and high amounts of heavy metals. I've been loving these teas and appreciate that they're quadruple toxin screened for heavy metals, pesticides, toxic mold and radioactive isotopes. Their matcha is also shaded 35% longer for higher l-theanine content and flavor.

  • Nutmeg's Spreads: I've already shared this with you before...but as a reminder: it's the best Almond Butter I've ever had and it comes from a mission-driven business that gives back to the community. I don't have any kind of partnership with them-- just a huge fan all around. My mom had some shipped out to California and is hooked now as well!

  • KOS Organic Powdered Coconut Milk: made of 100% organic coconut milk powder (zero fillers). Although it comes in a plastic container, I feel better about possible leaching that would come from regular liquid coconut milk in a can (lined with BPA or BPS). It's also more convenient than having to open a whole can if you just want a little bit. I've used it in coffee and smoothies and look forward to testing it out for Thai recipes that call for coconut milk.

That's it for this week. Thank you so much for reading! Wishing you a safe and healthy week ahead.

Be well,

Jess XO
