August 2-9, 2020

LAST WEEK AT THE CHAPEL

This past Sunday we had another full house (or deck in this case!) and enjoyed visiting (at a distance, of course) and the wonderful music of Marie Dunkle and Chris Casses. Much like the bright, warm sun above us, Kim May was full of life and energy as she shared the message of "Always Decide to Calibrate Up!"

If you missed the talk, it should be available here in a few days.

THIS SUNDAY AT THE CHAPEL - August 9th

In keeping with the CDC recommendations, safety precautions remain in effect for all gatherings at the chapel including wearing masks (they are available at the entrance if you do not have one), use of hand sanitizer, and 6' social distancing. In order to ensure the 6' distance between persons of different households, RSVPs are required for Sunday services. (See link below to RSVP)

Barbara Beckham will facilitate our Discussion Sunday topic "A compassionate look at Stereotypes and Implicit Bias; is there a relationship between intent and impact?"

We will be viewing two short video clips to stimulate discussion on how stereotypes can influence behavior, thoughts, and attitudes, including implicit bias: which may be in our head even though we do not want them to be. We will also discuss what the ramifications and relationships between intent and impact can be?

Crow Capps will provide music this week.

Ruth Henry will be the host.

If you plan to attend, please be sure to RSVP by clicking the link below and providing the names and number of people in your party and whether you will be sitting together or separately. Click HERE to RSVP this Sunday service.  (Also, please review General Reminders for Outdoor Services,)

The videos of the Sunday talks are generally posted on www.wayfarersunity.org within a few days of recording if you are unable to attend or would simply like to revisit a talk.

FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ATTEND SUNDAY SERVICES

While we are happy that our members generally feel safe in our "6' separation", "sanitizer provided", "masks required" environment on the deck, we recognize that some people do not feel safe at this time being in groups of any size. If viewing the Sunday talks is not enough input and connection for you and you would like the participate in Zoom gatherings with other Wayfarers, please contact Ruth Henry at 901.218.4234.

DEATH CAFE - A NEW DISCUSSION GROUP AT THE CHAPEL

Do you like to talk? Discuss? Do you like to plan for things? Then consider joining Jan Brewer August 9th from 2-4 pm on the deck of the chapel to talk about/plan for death. After all, we plan for and talk about births, graduations, weddings, home ownership, etc. Why not talk about/plan for death?

Death Cafe is an international movement in which people typically meet, drink tea, eat cake, and discuss death with only one agenda: Be an open and straightforward discussion space to talk about death with no intention to any conclusion, product, or course of action. Due to the need to wear masks in gatherings at this time, food and drink will not be served.

For more information please see www.deathcafe.com or contact Jan Brewer at 510.684.5555.

This outside event will be cancelled if it rains. RSVPs are not required, however, if you wish to be notified of cancellation due to weather, please text your RSVP to Jan at 510.684.5555.
