LAST WEEK AT THE CHAPEL

Last Sunday twenty-five Wayfarers gathered on the deck to enjoy the talk by Dr. Katie Davis, cello music of Marie Dunkle and beautiful vocal renditions of "The River is Wide" and "An Irish Blessing" from Katheryn Brown. Once again the weather was perfect for outdoor services. Many thanks to Katie, Marie, Katheryn and our host Anne Kirslis for a Sunday morning that was heartfelt and thought provoking. We hope for excellent weather for Sunday service on the deck next week.

GET READY FOR NEXT SUNDAY!

THIS SUNDAY AT THE CHAPEL  – OCTOBER 4

In keeping with the CDC recommendations, safety precautions remain in effect for all gatherings at the chapel including 6' social distancing and wearing masks. (Hand sanitizer and masks are available at the table at the entrance.) In order to ensure the 6' distance between persons of different households, RSVPs are required for Sunday services.

* * *

KATHLEEN REHLING will be our speaker this coming Sunday. As you can see from the photo above, her topic is "Letting go is all we have to hang onto." This may be one of the most important lessons for finding individual peace in these difficult times.

CROWE CAPPS will bring his soulful guitar playing to the Chapel's outside deck--with accompaniment by the rushing creek waters. His music has a way of deepening our meditation time.

MERETA ALSPAUGH will serve as Sunday morning host.

If you plan to attend, please be sure to RSVP by clicking the link below and providing the names and number of people in your party and whether you will be sitting together or separately. Click HERE to RSVP this Sunday service.

The videos of the Sunday talks are generally posted on www.wayfarersunity.org within a few days of recording if you are unable to attend or would simply like to revisit a talk.

QIGONG ON THE DECK

Experience the joyful flow of energetic well-being immersed in nature through the simple, easy meditative movements of Qigong standing or sitting -- a life-enhancing practice for everyone. Smiling guaranteed.

Kathleen Rehling will facilitate Qigong on the deck each WEDNESDAY morning from 10:30-11:30 from September 23 through October 28. Rain cancels. Social distancing observed. Event is by donation. You may contact Kathleen at (912) 222-3996.

DEATH CAFE RETURNS OCTOBER 11th

Do you like to talk? Discuss? Do you like to plan for things? Then consider joining Jan Brewer October 11th from 2-4 pm on the deck of the chapel to talk about/plan for death. After all, we plan for and talk about births, graduations, weddings, homeownership, etc. Why not talk about/plan for death?

Death Cafe is an international movement in which people typically meet, drink tea, eat cake, and discuss death with only one agenda: Be an open and straightforward discussion space to talk about death with no intention to any conclusion, product, or course of action. Due to the need to wear masks in gatherings at this time, food and drink will not be served.

For more information please see www.deathcafe.com or contact Jan Brewer at 510.684.5555.

This outside event will be canceled if it rains. RSVPs are not required, however, if you wish to be notified of cancellation due to weather, please text your RSVP to Jan at 510.684.5555.

RECENT BOARD MEETING UPDATES

The Wayfarers Board of Directors conducted a business meeting at the chapel last Wednesday, September 23. The full minutes of that meeting are available on request from Board Secretary, Anne Kirslis. Here are meeting highlights:

  1. As weather becomes to brisk for Sunday services on the deck, we will move back into the chapel but we must continue safety practices (social distancing, ventilation, masks, sanitation stations) and our RSVP system. Plans are being put in place to support safety of Wayfarers for inside services and information will be provided via this newsletter in the coming weeks.

  2. Our Wayfarers Unity Chapel annual meeting is scheduled for Sunday November 8 immediately following the morning service. Typically this meeting includes election of new Board members as well as reporting on our finances and budget, past achievements and future plans. Because of Covid considerations, election of new Board members will be done virtually this year, prior to November 8, and election results will be announced at that meeting. Information on how to obtain a voting ballot will be in this newsletter in October.

  3. Four of the current Board members will step off in November leaving vacancies for four new Board members. If you have an interest in serving on the Wayfarers Board, please contact current Board president, Marie Dunkle (770-335-0967). She will explain Board responsibilities and nomination protocol. The deadline for new Board nominations is October 22, 2020.

  4. Progress was reported on plans for renovation of the primary Chapel bathroom to better serve our Wayfarers with disabilities. A new toilet, sink, safety handrails, wheelchair accessible door and hot water are part of the plan and will be in place before Winter. Safer walkways are also to be designed for this project.

PRAYER GROUP

The Wayfarers Prayer Group is available to hold you, a friend, or loved one in affirmative prayer in time of need. If you wish to receive prayerful support, please contact Anne Kirslis at (404) 510-2670 or adeeney424@aol.com

OPELSKI

The Opelski team met this past Saturday to "love up the land" around the chapel. Every Autumn there is a deluge of falling leaves that cover chapel decks and walkways. The Opelski team is in need of additional volunteers with rakes and gas powered blowers to help clear leaves. If you can help, please contact Joyce Oliver (828-200-9160) or Sandy Thomas (407-786-4364). Being a team member is fun and greatly appreciated.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

MY JOYFUL SPIRIT IS UNIQUELY CREATIVE

When searching for a new idea or way to express myself, I begin by turning within to Spirit. In the silence of prayer, my mind expands and opens to new means of expression. I am grateful for the capacity to develop an idea and express it, to take an idea and form a new way of thinking or doing. For some, this creativity takes shape as making art, writing, or playing music. For others, it could mean building or cooking. And others express creativity through volunteerism or other forms of service. All are beautiful expressions of Spirit, as individual as the people creating them. I give thanks for the creative spirit within me and all people and for the outlet of divine expression. [from Daily Word September 28, 2020]

WE HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A DIVINELY CREATIVE WEEK.
