| LAST SUNDAY AT THE CHAPEL Laura Dendy set the tone with lovely prelude music. Marie Dunkle played a Scottish Lament and several traditional tunes on the themes of Hope and "Thanks Giving". And, led by Anne Kirslis, we shared a bit about our individual challenges this year of Covid, and the methods we have found to cope and even flourish. The discussion drew us closer as we felt compassion and came to better know some of our similarities. It was a heartfelt time. | | | | SUNDAY SERVICE - NOVEMBER 29 Dave Stewart and Katharine Brown are our featured musicians this week (with a little assist from Marie Dunkle.) Our speaker, Dr. Katie Davis, will explore the binds between Lamentation and Hope in challenging times. Please include the names of those attending and whether they are sitting solo or together. Remember, fans are ON and doors are OPEN, so dress accordingly. Please enter thru the front door and exit thru deck doors and leave chairs exactly where they are. Please continue to observe 6' spacing and the wearing of face masks. Hand sanitizer and masks are available at the front door. | FUND RAISER! In the true spirit of "Thanks Giving", Wayfarers' generous donations of $1530 this week brought our fundraiser balance to $3302 - 66% of the way to our goal of $5000 to help cover the costs of the seawall reconstruction and changes to chapel bathrooms and walkways to benefit us all. If you are able and led by spirit to contribute to this place we all love so dearly, we invite you to make a contribution to the fund by dropping your offering in the basket at the chapel, sending a check to Wayfarers Unity Chapel, PO Box 474, Dillard, GA 30537, or via PayPal. Please mark donations for "Building Fund". | | FOOD DRIVE IN PROGRESS You can help out a local person/family in need this Christmas season by donating a few cans or boxed food items during our food drive that will be held on the following Sundays (11/29, 12/6, 12/13, and 12/20). Bring your food items to the chapel on Sunday and leave them on the back counter. Please ensure all foods are non-perishable and within date. Donated food items will be delivered weekly to the Sharing is Caring Food Bank located in Clayton which is one of three local foodbanks that our Rabun county residents can use when in need and experiencing food hunger. If we all bring in one or two cans or boxed food items for these four Sundays, we can really assist in this worthwhile cause and help a person/family out in need. -- “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” Mother Teresa | CHRISTMAS SERVICES - RSVP EARLY! Our Wayfarers Chapel Christmas Holiday service is always a popular event and a full house. This year it will be held the morning of December 20. Because of continuing Covid-19 restrictions, we will be offering two separate services that morning and each will be different. You will have a choice of attending a Sacred Service at 9 am or our Celebration Service at 10 am. So please note and plan to RSVP for one service very soon as they will fill up. Sacred Holiday Service - Dec 20 at 9:00 am ..... A Sacred Holiday Service will be offered and led by Rev. Tom Tyre. This will be primarily a pensive time of quiet meditation and gratitude, acknowledging the birth of the great teacher, Jesus, and welcoming the light. Attendees will be asked to quietly depart at the end of the 40 minute service to make room for the next group. Celebration Service - Dec 20 at 10:00 am ..... A Celebration Service will be offered and led by Marie Dunkle. This will be an hour of special music and inspiring short readings by several of our Wayfarers. Covid restrictions prevent any group singing inside, but some of our finest musicians will grace us with their instruments and solo voices. If you have an interest in doing a short (3 to 5 minute) holiday story or reading, please contact Marie Dunkle to be added to the agenda (mdunkle@mindspring.com or 770-335-0967). If you have music talents or a special song to offer for our Celebration Service, please contact Chris Casses (chris.casses@gmail.com or 828-200-4543.). You may attend either the 9:00 am Sacred Service or the 10:00 am Celebration Service. Making a reservation is as easy as clicking YES! RESERVE MY SPOT for the CHRISTMAS SERVICE and telling us which service you would like to attend and who will be in your party. A link will also be available on our website www.wayfarersunity.org. Please respond early as one or both services are likely to fill up fast! | OUTDOORS ANYONE? It may be getting cooler, but that has never slowed us down! Several members have expressed an interest in doing regular hikes with other Wayfarers as a means of healthy exercise and communion with nature and other like-minded souls. Please contact Sandy Thomas (sandralmt@live.com or (407) 786-4364) if you are interested. | PRAYER GROUP The Wayfarers Prayer Group is available to hold you, a friend, or a loved one in affirmative prayer in time of need. If you wish to receive prayerful support, please contact Anne Krislis at (404) 510-2670 or adeeney424@aol.com | MEETING OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors will hold another organizational meeting December 7th at 9:30 am at the chapel. Please note, face masks and 6' separation will be maintained. | | | | | | THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Excepts from "Prayer is Power" by Alexis Carrel, MD "Prayer is a force as real as terrestrial gravity. ... It is the only power in the world that seems to overcome the so-called 'laws of nature'; the occasions on which prayer has dramatically done this have been termed "miracles." But a constant, quieter miracle takes place hourly in the hearts of men and women who have discovered that prayer supplies them with a steady flow of sustaining power in their daily lives. Too many people regard prayer as a formalized routine of words, a refuge for weaklings, or a childish petition for material things. We sadly undervalue prayer when we conceive it in these terms, just as we should underestimate rain by describing it as something that fills the birdbath in our garden. Properly understood, prayer is a mature activity indispensable to the fullest development of personality - the ultimate integration of man's highest faculties. Only in prayer do we achieve that complete and harmonious assembly of body, mind, and spirit which gives the frail human reed its unshakable strength." "... All prayers have one thing in common ... human beings seek to augment their finite energy by addressing themselves to the Infinite Source of all energy. When we pray, we link ourselves with the inexhaustible motive power that spins the universe. We ask that a part of this power be apportioned to our needs." "...Man prays not only that God should remember him, but also that he should remember God." "...It is meaningless to pray in the morning and to live like a barbarian the remainder of the day. True prayer is a way of life; the truest life is literally a way of prayer." |
