There is no charge for the sessions and all are welcome. Donations to support the chapel may be placed in the baskets by the door.

BLS CLASS

Dr. Norman Olsen will be offering an American Heart BLS class for healthcare providers at the end of the month. If you are interested in attending, please contact Norman at (787) 889-5820.

NEWSLETTER UPDATE_

As part of the website conversion, effective next week, the newsletter will be sent from a different email address. To help prevent newsletters and news flashes from going to SPAM, please add news@wayfarerschapelga.org to your contacts and/or set up a filter to deliver everything from this address to your inbox.

You can always check the current newsletter on the web, but the only way to receive timely information about potential closures or changes to events and get special notices from the Board is to actually be receiving emails from news@wayfarerschapelga.org. So, if you have any issues receiving your newsletter, please contact Ruth Henry at (901) 218-4234 or news@wayfarerschapelga.org.

WAYFARERS RECIPES

Sharing food is one of the wonderful ways we create and experience community here at Wayfarers. We have had lots of interest in creating a collection of Wayfarers' Recipes and Michelle Quartermaine has volunteered to head up this project.

You can write up the recipe in an email, send an electronic file via email, or send a photo of a recipe by email or text -- whatever is easiest for you. Just be sure to include your name and contact info in case Michelle has a question. You can send submissions to Michelle at michelle8487@gmail.com or (864) 608-4514.

SONGBOOK

Last week we asked you to begin thinking about songs that we can sing as a group that are uplifting and in line with our Wayfarers core values of LOVE, GRATITUDE, INCLUSION, HEALTH and SERVICE.

Now's the time to chime in. Use button link below to add your favorite selections!

DRUM CIRCLE

Grab your drum and sense of adventure, and join us for a Full Moon Drum Circle on August 30th from 7-9 PM at the chapel. No drum? No worries, we always have a few extra drums and percussion instruments you can use!

MOVIE NIGHT

This week we'd like you to begin thinking of kid-friendly movies for our monthly movie night. Movies with a good message and vibe. They don't need to be "kid's movies" - just child friendly. Next week we will start collecting titles!

AED and HEALTH/SPILL EQUIPMENT

The Board will soon purchase an AED, a spill kit, and first-aid supplies for the chapel.

To donate funds towards this effort, please mark checks as HEALTH EQUIPMENT and place them in the General Fund basket at the chapel.

If you have questions about the equipment, please contact Jen Utley at (901) 218.4234 or jenutley@bellsouth.net.

WAYFARERS DIRECTORY

This voluntary "opt-in" directory will include not only name, phone, address, email (if you have one), and birthday -- the basics on how to connect and celebrate one another -- but you can also include skills/knowledge/materials that you are open to sharing in support of other Wayfarers. You will also be given the opportunity to add a picture - and we hope you do - as this makes it much easier for folks since sometimes names and faces seem to live in separate places in our brains!!

Several folks have been asking, so just to be clear....

The information in this directory is private and for the use of Wayfarers to connect with and support other Wayfarers. It will NOT be visible on the website. And only those who choose to include information in the directory will have access to the full directory contents.

To add you info, just click the link below.

If you have questions about the directory, please contact Maggie Renken at maggierenken@gmail.com.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS - ELECTION NOV 7

As a lay-led community, Wayfarers relys on the generousity of our members-of-the-heart to step up and serve on the Board of Directors. The Board is the group that tends to daily operations as well as arranges speakers, musicians, and special events. They are the ones who set our direction and ensure we are meeting our core values of Inclusion, Love, Health, Gratitude, and Service.

Service on the Board is a two-year term. The Board meets at least quarterly and as is necessary to tend to business. Board members also host services and share the responsibilities for ensuring that things get done. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Board please contact a current Board member (see Contact Information section of newsletter) OR speak with a former Board member such as Marie Dunkle, Ruth Henry, David Stearns, Mereta Alspaugh, or Anne Kirslis. You may also wish to attend the next Board meeting. Just watch the newsletter for announcement of the next meeting date.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT RESOURCES

If you have medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, walking boots, crutches, bedside toilets, etc. that you are willing to loan (or even give) to other Wayfarers in need, please contact Barbara Beckham at apinklady@att.net. Please include a picture if possible and sizes where appropriate.

LAST WEEK

SERVICE

We enjoyed the magical music of Crowe Capps and the story of "The Magical Mystical Music Box" by Rev. Bill Groves. Story and music are available online.

METAPHYSICAL PICNIC

SATURDAY, September 16, 2023 (12-4 PM)

For several years now, Rev. Dr. Randy Doster and Rev. Mark Stein - regular speakers at Wayfarers - have sponsored an annual picnic as a means for folks from the various metaphysical communities in the area to get to together and share with food and fun.

This year's Metaphysical Picnic will be held Saturday, September 16th from 12-4 PM at Western Carolina University Picnic Pavilion (201 Poplar Ave, Sylva, NC). See PICNIC FLYER for details of event and volunteer opportunities.
