Mark Your Calendars for October 25, 2018!
Join more than 8,000 communities and 1 million Americans in celebrating afterschool programs for this year's Lights On Afterschool! This nationwide event, organized by the Afterschool Alliance, calls attention to the importance of afterschool programs and the resources required to keep the lights on and the doors open. VPOST is proud to be a Lights On Afterschool partner.

Too many American children—19.4 million—are missing out on afterschool opportunities. Participate in Lights On Afterschool and help call attention to this important issue.

To learn more about Lights On Afterschool, register an event, access event planning tools, or to find out what’s going on in your area on October 25, 2018, visit afterschoolalliance.org. Those who register will receive free Lights On Afterschool posters to help promote their event, and their events will be promoted to media and the public by the Afterschool Alliance. Lights On Afterschool is a project of the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to afterschool programs.

Click2Science is an interactive, professional development site for trainers, coaches, site directors and frontline staff/volunteers working in out-of-school time STEM programs, serving children and youth.
Looking for resources on how to run a high-quality program? SEDL, an affiliate of the American Institutes for Research, has no-cost resources on lesson plans, practitioners' guides, and training toolkits. Visit the National Center for Quality Afterschool here.
Back by popular demand, the World of 7 Billion student video contest helps you bring technology and creativity into your middle and high school classes. The contest challenges students to create a short video connecting world population growth to one of three global challenges: preserving biodiversity, sustainable resource use, or human rights. Students can win cash prizes (featuring 80+ new prizes this year!), and participating teachers will receive free curriculum resources. The deadline for submissions is February 28th, 2019 – use this lesson plan to get started now! Full contest guidelines, resources for research, past winners, and more can be found here.

The American Society of Naval Engineers gives schools and organizations up to $1,000 to help them implement the free resources in their FLEET curriculum. FLEET is an engineering video game that allows students to design ships, experience forces, and work with a 100% accurate physics simulator. The grant window is open from 10/20-12/31. Grant moneys can support anything an organization needs to use these materials (e.g., technology, materials, professional-development time). The one-page application is available at here. 
 
If you’re eager to establish a digital learning center, IGT is interested in helping your program thrive! IGT requests applications for its After School Advantage (ASA) Program. The program seeks to close the digital divide for disadvantaged children who get left behind because they do not have the means to access computers in today's increasingly digital society.

Youth.Gov is a U.S. government website that gives helpful facts about youth transitioning to adulthood. The site also provides funding information, government resources, evidenced-based programs, youth-related news and much more. Click here for more information.
The Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship encourages talented STEM majors and professionals to become K-12 Math and Science teachers. in high-need local educational agencies. Opportunities include Teacher Scholarships and Stipends, Teaching Fellowships, NSF Master Teaching Fellowships, and Research. Capacity Building proposals are also welcomed.
