Subject: What an amazing 20th Lights on Afterschool! 💡

Thank you for a very bright Lights on Afterschool in Virginia!
From the mountains of the southwest to the coastlines of the east, Lights on Afterschool across the Commonwealth was a great success!

We loved the pictures of your smiling faces and lightbulb poses that you sent or tagged us in!

Here at VPOST, we honored the day by participating in a roundtable discussion in Harrisonburg with a powerhouse of afterschool champions, which of the many included Deputy Secretary of Education Holly Coy, Jen Rinehart of the Afterschool Alliance and Eric English, Chief of Police of Harrisonburg City. Chief English was recently featured in new research from Council for Strong America, Fight Crime, which tells the story of the powerful impact of afterschool during peak juvenile crime hours.

Governor Northam officially proclaimed October 24, 2019, as Lights On Afterschool Day in Virginia. Nationally, the Afterschool Alliance had a record 10,000+ events and the US Senate unanimously passed a bi-partisan resolution celebrating afterschool programs.

Lastly, in case you missed it, there was a great piece in the Richmond Times-Dispatch from Richmond's afterschool leaders calling on the local community to support Lights on Afterschool and out-of-school programs year-round.
