VPOST represents Virginia at the 2020 Afterschool for All Challenge

The Afterschool for All Challenge took place on March 18, 2020. Typically the Challenge takes place on Capitol Hill with a team advocating for afterschool programs. This year's Challenge was held virtually with Virginia's team calling their legislative offices.

Participants included VPOST Staff, Blaire Denson and Christine Jones-Monaccio, Daryle Rodgers, Extended Learning/Out of School Time, Title IV: 21st CCLC,  Coordinator

Michelle Simpson, Alternatives Youth Development Specialist, along with her team of Youth Ambassadors, Matt Hoffert, Fairfax County Public Schools Afterschool Program Specialist, Paige Kluck, 21st CCLC Grantee, Suffolk County Schools, and Alicia Crawley, Lynchburg City Public Schools 21st CCLC Coordinator.

First and foremost, the results of the impact of the pandemic, that was collected through VPOST's survey, were shared with the legislators. The team rallied for sustained and increased funding for 21st CCLC programming, Child Care Development Block Grants (CCDBG) and the Summer Meals program. Many legislators had already signed on to these initiatives. Additionally, the team encouraged legislators to join the federal Afterschool Caucasus and follow up steps are being pursued with interested members.
