Subject: VPOST March 2021 News: Funds for Afterschool & Summer Learning in the newest COVID Relief Package

Additional Funds for Afterschool and Summer Learning in the newest COVID Relief Package

The American Rescue Plan (ARP) became one step closer to being finalized over the weekend when the U.S. Senate joined the House of Representatives in passing the bill. It is now going back to the House for final approval where it is expected to pass early next week and be signed into law by President Biden.

The bill could bring significant funding, mainly through ESSER III (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) to our field for learning recovery. In all, the Senate bill could make $8.75 billion available at the state level for afterschool and summer programs, across all states; and $21.9 billion at the local level for afterschool and summer. To get a sense of the tremendous impact this funding could make, consider that $8.75 billion would provide programming for almost 9 million students in need.

After the legislation is signed into law, it will be implemented by the Department of Education and other agencies, as well as by SEAs (State Education Agencies) at the state level. VPOST is closely monitoring this situation to work on behalf of the field in Virginia.

We need your help once again to tell the story of the ways in which COVID-19 is impacting your program and the kids and families you serve. Not only will you help paint the national picture, but enough responses will help us collect data for Virginia. This would be extremely helpful, as the landscape has shifted dramatically since we last collected data on the pandemic impact in Virginia.

The survey closes this Sunday, March 14th and everyone that completes will be entered to win one of 50, $50 gift cards!

Take the Survey

Introducing the National AfterSchool Association’s 2021 Be Counted Campaign!

What is it?

NAA's Be Counted Campaign is a brief survey of professionals and leaders—those of you who work with or on behalf of young people in out-of-school time. Responses to questions about demographics and representation will provide a comprehensive reflection of the afterschool workforce.

Why is this campaign important to you and the profession?

Survey results will be compiled into the 2021 State of the Profession Report, providing data for research, policies, practice, and professional development. Data will help us strengthen the afterschool workforce.

How do I participate?

It only takes three minutes! The Be Counted Campaign is a field-wide survey open to all afterschool professionals and leaders.
