Celebrate the 25th annual Lights On Afterschool Oct. 24, 2024!

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families, and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.

The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do, and poetry—and discover new skills. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.

Registration Closes August 15th, for VCU Advanced Certificate

The VCU Advanced Certificate in Youth Development Management is designed for professionals across various sectors, including early childhood education, outside-school-time (OST) youth and young adult programs and services, school and community group settings, and healthcare facilities/offices.

This certificate is a non-credit credential managed by the VCU Mary and Frances Youth Center. More information here.

New Report From Wallace Foundation on Role of Intermediaries, Features NextUp in Richmond

A new report from the Wallace Foundation looks at how out-of-school time intermediaries made substantial contributions in helping communities during the pandemic and addressing the inequities made worse by the health crisis. Richmond, Virginia was one of twenty cities selected for participation in the research, with NextUpRVA in the role of the city's intermediary. Key takeaways of the research suggest OST intermediaries can make valuable contributions in the future of citywide efforts to assist families and children, as well as press for greater equity in OST programming. Get the full report here.
