VPOST Leadership Member, Daryle Rodgers Chosen to Be One of Just 15 ‘Afterschool Ambassadors’ in the Country This Year

Congratulations Daryle! Mr. Rodgers, VPOST Leadership Council Member and Coordinator of Out-of-School Time & Extended Learning Programs for Hampton City Schools has recently been added to the newest co-hort of the Afterschool Alliance's Afterschool Ambassadors. The program identifies afterschool providers and advocates of special achievement and helps them raise their voices in support of afterschool.

“I am eager to join the Afterschool Alliance in building support for afterschool programs,” said Rodgers. “In my 19 years working in the field, I’ve seen time and again the extraordinary difference that afterschool makes in the lives of young people in Virginia."

On October 9, 2019 at age 82, William S. White, the former president, CEO and board chair of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation passed away. Bill White created a legacy that has improved, and continues to improve, the lives of children, families and communities across our nation.

With Bill’s leadership, a once-small federal funding stream of $1 million grew to more than $1 billion, due in large part to a public private partnership between the U.S. Department of Education and the Mott Foundation. A handshake between White and U.S. Education Secretary Dick Riley led to the establishment of this incredibly successful partnership, which has provided tools, resources, and opportunities to tens of millions of kids through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program.
