Subject: SIGN TODAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR AFTERSCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAMS

With the FY 2025 full year continuing resolution passed, the FY2026 appropriations process is underway. The Afterschool Alliance is asking for signatures in support of $2.09 billion for FY 2026 for the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative.

While a great deal of uncertainty continues at the federal level, the Afterschool Alliance knows the tremendous need for afterschool and summer learning programs at the local level continues to grow, as do the costs necessary for quality programs.

Supporting the 21st CCLC infrastructure at the national, state, and local level remains critical as a way to ensure local school and community-based afterschool and summer learning providers have the federal support they can leverage to provide a wide range of programs and services in support of student and family success.

In Virginia, these programs are crucial to the success of children and youth. According to the 2022-2023 Department of Education's Overview of the 21st CCLC Annual Performance Data, Virginia reported more than 95% of students enrolled in afterschool and/or summer programs showed improved engagement in learning (pg. 37). By offering a safe and nurturing environment where students can engage in educational activities beyond the regular school day, these centers aim to enhance students' academic skills, foster personal growth, and increase their chances of academic success.

The deadline to sign on to the organizational letter of support is April 8, 2025 by close of business. To read the letter and add your national, state, or local organization to the letter, please visit here.
