Subject: It's Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

VPOST is excited to officially open our recruitment for our 2023-2024 cohort of STEM Youth Ambassadors! Virginia youth ages 13-18 are encouraged to apply to represent teens across the Commonwealth who love participating in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities during afterschool and want to share their stories.

VPOST will guide STEM Ambassadors on how to create and tell their unique stories through a series of monthly sessions, virtually, (times to be determined) between June and November 2023 and January-February 2024. Ambassadors will learn about different ways to share their stories to promote more support for Afterschool STEM programs. The program will follow a cycle of the Virginia General Assembly season from election campaigns in the summer, through the November elections and into the start of the Virginia General Assembly session. The STEM Youth Ambassador program leads up to an advocacy day at the Virginia General Assembly in Richmond, VA in early 2024. Here Ambassadors will meet representatives and their staff to share their STEM stories. This is a great opportunity for youth to bring their love of STEM to change-making!

Youth that successfully completes the program will be rewarded for their time in the prep sessions with a $100 pre-paid VISA gift card.

Applications are due May 30, 2023! Questions can be directed to Christine Jones Monaccio at christine.jones-monaccio@v-post.org.

May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

This month, we celebrate the amazing contributions of Asian American & Pacific Islanders in the United States. We're highlighting role models in STEM - including Nina Niu Sanford, an attending radiation oncologist who cares for cancer patients, Janis Louie, an internationally-recognized researcher in the field of catalysis, and Samantha Thi Porter, the daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a digital archaeologist!
