We are pleased to announce the RFP for our 2019 Conference, Rise Up and Shine, is now available. We are looking for dynamic speakers with areas of expertise, innovation, and proven strategies in the out-of-school time field. For the RFP please click here. 
VPOST will be in Washington DC on June 11-12th for the Afterschool for All Challenge. During this annual event youth and afterschool advocates visit their representatives in Congress to urge their support for afterschool. You can join our efforts and make your voice heard! National Summer Learning Week, July 8-13, 2019

Led by the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA), National Summer Learning Week elevates the importance of keeping all kids learning, safe, and healthy during the summer. On July 8-13, the country will unite in advocacy
efforts and celebrations hosted by hundreds of partner organizations from libraries to parks and recreation centers and civic and non-profit groups to promote awareness of the importance of keeping kids healthy and engaged during the summer. June is Pride Month

Looking for ways to celebrate Pride Month in your program? Live Out Loud inspires, nurtures and empowers LGBTQ+ youth to build a successful future by connecting them to positive role models and affirmative experiences in the LGBTQ community.They have multiple lesson plans and resources for lesson plans for Gay Straight Alliances, Diversity Clubs and more. Teaching Tolerence has a selection of Perspectives texts that address LGBTQ+ identities, experiences and voices. Last, The National Afterschool Alliance has a great piece on supporting LGTQ+  youth, which comes from Better Kid Care. 
Search Institute is seeking out-of-school time programs to help pilot a new survey in Fall 2019. Measuring What Matters: The Developmental Relationships (DR) Survey Project, will provide measures of SEL and the relationships in your organization that help develop those capabilities. The Virginia State Park Bay Experience Unit 
 
The Virginia State Park Bay Experience Unit (BEU) is a new program provided by state park interpretive staff. The BEU provides in-school programming, in park bay experiences and locally focused conservation activities. Programming can be tailored to fit your students needs based on grade level, local bay resources, and subject matter. Some of the programming available includes:

Kayaking
Water Testing 
Archery 
Chesapeake Bay Wildlife 
Virginia Bay History

Meet National Geographic Explorers! Three Opportunities Coming in July



Explorer Classroom connects summer programs around the world with National Geographic Explorers, bringing science, exploration, and conservation to life through live video events. Students have the opportunity to ask the explorer their questions directly. Past Explorer Classroom Sessions can be viewed here. 
Bring Exploration to Your Program in 3 Easy Steps:

1. Learn More: Sign up for a session! 
2. Get Your Summer Programs Ready: Use the educator guide to brainstorm questions for the explorer. An unlimited number of classrooms can watch live on YouTube. Six programs will be selected for on-screen spot.
3. Watch & Ask Questions: Tune in at the scheduled time and date for your session. Ask the explorer your questions and learn all about life as a National Geographic Explorer!

The winners of the 2018 – 2019 World of 7 Billion video contest have been announced! You can watch all of the winning videos and learn more about the winning student filmmakers online now. This year, over 5,500 students participated and we received 2,726 video submissions from schools in 43 countries and 47 U.S. states and territories.

Up to $20,000 for Out-of-School Time Educators Working with Kids & Parents

The National Center for Families Learning is seeking applicants for the 2019 Toyota Family Teacher of the Year competition, which will provide up to $20,000 to school or community-based educators who have a demonstrated record of success using two-generation strategies, involving multiple generations in the learning process. Applications are due June 14, 2019One winning educator will receive a $20,000 grant and the opportunity to showcase the two generational approach’s positive impact on the community. A second place prize of $5,000 will also be awarded.
Grants up to $9,000 + training in DC for Afterschool Programs to Lead Middle & High School Coalitions on 9/11 Day, MLK Day, and GYSD. 

Youth Service America is now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 Lead Agency program to activate youth volunteers. Funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the Lead Agency program offers youth development organizations, community-based organizations, and schools/school districts grant funding, capacity-building training, and ongoing support to effectively engage young people in meaningful service and civic action activities.The deadline to apply is Friday, June 14.
If you’re eager to establish a digital learning center, IGT is interested in helping your program thrive! IGT requests applications for its After School Advantage (ASA) Program. The program seeks to close the digital divide for disadvantaged children who get left behind because they do not have the means to access computers in today's increasingly digital society.
