Subject: Announcing the Million Girls Moonshot Flight Crew 2023

Million Girls Moonshot is excited to announce the 2023 Flight Crew that features 43 remarkable youth from 37 states in the nation, including two youth from Virginia! Motivated by their impactful STEM experiences beyond the classroom, these young leaders are currently working in their communities to break down stereotypes and spark their peers' curiosity in STEM.

The expanded 2023 Flight Crew was recently announced as a STEM Next commitment to the White House National Space Council's priority to promote career awareness of space opportunities.

The 2023 cohort will hone their advocacy and leadership skills during eight months of virtual programming - including leadership development opportunities, public speaking experience, resume and interview coaching, access to scholarships and internships and mentor connections - using their experiences in afterschool and summer learning.

Meet Virginia's Flight Crew Members

Virginia is thrilled to have Anna from the Charlottesville area showcase the power of afterschool STEM! Anna will be using her voice to raise the issue of equity for young girls in STEM across the nation. Learn more about Anna's leadership with serving as a student leader for Girls Geek Day, which introduces elementary school-aged girls to STEM by providing a fun, collaborative, hands-on environment to learn new skills and connection to other STEM programs in the community.

Medha, from Loudon County, will support Virginia in elevating the importance of afterschool STEM. VPOST is thrilled to see Medha be chosen for this opportunity as she has previously participated in our STEM Youth Ambassador program.

In May 2022, Medha and several of her peers were chosen to meet with the offices of Senator Kaine and Warner, the office of Congressman Good, as well as Congressman Bobby Scott. This delegation, which consisted of our Youth STEM Ambassadors, VPOST staff, and a staff member from NextUp RVA, made the case for sustained federal investments in afterschool and summer learning programs.

During her time as a VPOST STEM Youth Ambassador, Medha explained, "Afterschool STEM has helped me find a group that learns for the joy of learning. It's helped me shape my own character and be prepared for the realities of being a working adult.".
