POLICY NEWS
The European Economic and Social Affairs Committee (EESC) has specifically called for the creation of Good Simulation Practices as part of the steps needed to speed up clinical trials that include GMOs.
On 10 July 2020, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) adopted a resolution on the EU’s public health strategy post-COVID-19. By means of the resolution, the MEPs want to convey that the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for an enhanced role by the EU in health.
On 6 July 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Heads of Medicines Agencies (HMA) have published their 46 page joint strategy for the next five years that is released for a two-month public consultation.
On 28 July 2020, the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) has opened a Call for expressions of interest for “COVID-19 Response and Recovery Partnerships”
On 14 July 2020, 15 European university associations, representing more than 800 universities, called on European leaders to step up investment in research and innovation. The investment should be ensured through the Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and a new recovery instrument, Next Generation EU.

An opinion article recently published on the on line journal undark.org by Lindsay Gray (a lab manager at the University of California San Francisco) discusses how the use of computer modeling and simulation can make drug development and biomedical research safer, more efficient, and more effective.
A new interesting paper by Prof Blanca Rodriguez (University of Oxford) and all has been published in the Biophysics and Molecular Biology Journal.

STUDENT COMMITTEE
Antoine Motte dit Falisse (KULeuven) and Lorenzo Sala (Université de Strasbourg) are the winners of respectively the Best VPHi Thesis Award in In Silico Medicine and the Best VPHi-InSilicoTrials PhD Thesis Award in In Silico Medicine for potential application in industrial R&D.
The Meet-the-Mentor Session is an initiative organized by the VPHi student committee to enhance the learning experience for PhD students. The event offers trainees a special opportunity to network with senior members of the community and receive career advice and insights.
