Dear VPH friends, Plenty of news from the VPH world this month. First of all the VPH2014 conference is now approaching and we really look forward to seeing most of you in the beautiful Trondheim. In connection with the conference we will hold the bi-annual General Assembly of the Institute (Sept 12 from 9.30 to 11.30): we have a lot of interesting updates for you this year, so don’t miss it out! For VPH students that plan to attend the conference, the VPH Institute is offering 5 travels awards of €400: check the details, you might be the one to win the competition! We have another important news for students: the VPH Institute is advertising a new student membership, it only costs €10 and it gives you access to many interesting initiatives. For example, you can now take advantage of a 20% discount on Computational Biomedicine, the world's first textbook dedicated to the direct use of computer simulation in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a disease. The VPH Tianhe-2 Challenge is now coming to the end. After having collected the views of our experts on the possible VPH codes that would be valuable to port into the faster super computer in the world (Tianhe-2), we are now running a poll to select the winner: the vote is open to anyone and closes on Aug 18th. Let us know what you think about it! Before starting to flick through our news, we wish to remind you about another important dead-line: would you be interested to take an active role in driving the policy of the VPH Institute? The call for supporting members will close at the end of July. We wish to have on board motivated and active people, get involved with it! Enjoy the reading! B-)
