POLICY NEWS
During a General Affairs Council meeting on 20 November, the EU27 ministers decided on the new location of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Banking Authority (EBA).
- Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council wants to put Balkans at heart of European agenda in 2018
On 24 November the deputy minister of the incoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU (first six months of 2018), Monika Panayotova, made clear the importance of its presidency for the Western Balkans.
- EU grants €630 million to over 300 top researchers
On 28 November, the European Research Council (ERC) awarded Consolidator Grants to over 300 researchers across Europe.
- Experts say European Innovation Council is essential to empower breakthrough innovators
On 20 November, the independent High-Level Group of Innovators published their recommendations on the EIC, indicating it should support breakthrough innovation for the benefit of all, meeting the needs of high potential innovators from across the EU from start-up to scale-up.
- Commission launches €2 million Horizon Prize in Social Innovation
On 27 November, the European Commission launched a Horizon Prize in Social Innovation which is meant to improve the mobility of older people. 

Healthcare costs in Europe can be as high as 10 % of GDP and are increasing at 7 to 11 % every year. To tackle this challenge, the ETIME project has used detailed computer models of the human body.

Our Executive Director, Lies Geris, speaks about the benefits of VPH technologies in an interview for the Atlantic
Our best congratulations to Prof Lies Geris for this great achievement, which will allow her to continue her research on the development of new in silico strategies (using numerical models) in the field of tissue engineering.
On December 4th and 5th, the 9th TRM Forum on Computer Simulation of Cardiac Function took place in Lugan and was attended by our Executive Director, Prof Lies Geris.
University of Amsterdam, the organising committee of the VPH2016 Conference, is happy to announce that two special issues dedicated to the conference will be published soon.
The four year transatlantic research project entitled “Computational Horizons in Cancer (CHIC): Developing Meta- and Hyper-multiscale Models and Repositories for In Silico Oncology” was rated as “Excellent” at its final review.
