Organizational Values Adopted

As you may know, our Board of Director’s strategic plan includes an initiative to address our organizational culture and issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We’re excited to report that the committee working on those efforts recently proposed a set of organizational values that were adopted by the Board. The approved values were the result of a thorough process that started with every member of our National Office team and included reviews by our Regional Coordinators and SROL Leadership Team.

Typically, an organization’s values are presented in conjunction with its mission statement. The mission statement indicates what an organization’s purpose is, while the values indicate how the organization hopes to go about the work of achieving that mission. In other words, how will we treat one another as we interact within the organization and with the outside world?

We believe that this set of values is a powerful statement about who we want to be as a SMART community. Please join us in keeping them in mind as you do any work with SMART Recovery. And thank you for the ways that you’ve already been living up to them in the important work that you do for us every day.

Empowerment

We are committed to the power of choice, offering stigma-free tools and communities for individuals to use as they make progress on their own goals to build a life beyond addiction.

Equity

We see the value in every human being and are dedicated to identifying and transcending barriers to participation in SMART Recovery.

Inclusion

We accept and appreciate our different ways of being and support one another with respect, encouragement, and compassion.

Integrity

We are committed to being transparent and honest in our decision-making, aligning our actions with our words.

Accountability

We strive to have a meaningful positive impact in the world. We set goals, encourage innovation, measure progress, and follow through on our commitments.

Q&A With Volunteer Support Staff

Please join us on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. ET, to meet with Volunteer

Support Department members: Melina Gilbert, Volunteer Support Manager, Molly Princic, SROL Support Manager, and Tim Burton, Volunteer Support Specialist.

We launched these Q&A sessions, for current volunteers, during Volunteer Month in April, with the intention of this being a new on-going, supportive way that we can talk and address any questions you may have.

Registration for this event is closed. These meetings will continue on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 12:00 p.m. ET.

We are looking to gather information on your experience going through the Facilitator-in-Training process. Please complete this survey so we may evaluate any successes or room for improvement.

Rotating Facilitator Schedule

Are you interesting in facilitating more, but do not want to take on the commitment of facilitating weekly? This is an idea we are wondering if our volunteers would be interested in for Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET. Please let us know if you are interested or not.

Volunteer Recognition

SMART knows that it's our volunteers that create the biggest impact in the lives of those we serve, and we wanted a way to recognize the work you do. Started during Volunteer Month, we will continue to feature several of the volunteers you recognized through the Volunteer Recognition Program.

Joe Martin (Scooby123) - SROL Facilitator

Scooby123's meetings are incredible. He admits fault, and has helped me learn that even if I've made mistakes,  I myself am not a mistake. His kind words towards everyone and the way his meetings go make me feel much at peace after leaving.

Jessika Easterling - Facilitator, Ohio

She has been a friendly, warm and inviting face that welcomed me beginning with my first SMART recovery meeting and onward. She explained the 4-point program and tools to me and has been gracious in answering any questions I’ve had.
