Volunteer Opportunities

Online Training Team:

  • We are looking for volunteers, who are knowledgeable about SMART principles and training material, who are interested in helping our online training team.  As a member of this team, you would help to monitor and answer questions in the forums accessible to the facilitator trainees and participate in our twice monthly training role-play meetings.

  • This volunteer role requires two years of experience as a SMART Recovery facilitator.

  • If you are interested, click here to complete the application.

Helpful Hints

Training Refresher Course:

  • You can take a training refresher course free of charge at any point. We strongly encourage taking a refresher if you took a break and did not actively volunteer for 2 years. To sign up for a refresher course, email: training@smartrecovery.org

VolunteerHQ:

  • VolunteerHQ is your go-to place for volunteer resources. If you haven't checked it out yet, pop over and take a look! We have created this short video to show you how to navigate the site and get the most out of it. If you have ideas for content on the site, please email them to mgilbert@smartrecovery.org.

Meetings of Interest for Volunteers

SMART 4 Volunteers (S4V)

SMART FOR VOLUNTEERS (S4V) is a private SMART Recovery meeting for our volunteers.  While volunteering, people need to take time to focus on themselves. We offer a place where you can focus on your own wellbeing and recovery, with the security of being supported by your peers. This meeting has a different purpose than the SMART Meeting Management (SMM) meetings.

This group meets on Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. till -- 6:00 p.m. ET. and is facilitated by Jasper2016.

SMART Meeting Management (SMM) Meetings

If you are interested in furthering your meeting management skills or more smoothly handling challenges you might encounter while facilitating your meeting, this is the meeting is for you!

The SMART Meeting Management (SMM) meetings are every:

  • Monday: 10:00 p.m. ET

  • Wednesday: 8:00 p.m. ET

  • Friday: 6:00 p.m. ET

(NOTE: Zoom links for these meetings are behind the VHQ login or on SMARTCAL.)

Teen & Youth SMART Meeting Management (SMM) On Hiatus for Summer 2021

The Teen and Young Adult SMART Meeting Management (SMM) Facilitator Training and Support monthly meeting will be on hiatus for the summer. During this time we will assess how to better support our volunteers who facilitate meetings for this targeted population.

Take 5 Spotlight

Get to Know the People Behind SMART Recovery

We’re always looking for ways to build and improve our relationship with you, our treasured volunteers. We’ve done a few things along those lines over the years that have helped, but this time we’ve decided to make it simple and quick by having team members answer a few questions (5, to be exact) about what they do. Maybe more importantly, why they do it. Read more about the Take 5 initiative.

Meet Ted Perkins

Meet Ali Adinaro

Quite simply, he’s Ted the video guy. His job is not accounting (though his videos raise money), answering the phones (though his videos cause people to call), or directly training facilitators (though his videos are used by the training team). Essentially, Ted just loves telling stories, “Especially when it involves telling emotionally compelling stories of personal triumphs and overcoming adversity.”

If you happen to partake in any of the following SMART activities, you’ve been touched by the work of SMART’s Marketing and Fundraising Manager Ali Adinaro: read blog, listened to podcasts, perused newsletters, opened emails, enjoyed social media posts, responded to fundraisers, and noticed website updates. Ali is involved in pretty much all things marketing and fundraising across the agency.
