Helpful Hints

Material Review Committee:

Have you ever designed a flyer or a brochure to publicize SMART Recovery meetings in your community? Or perhaps you have made a handout based on one of the tools for use in your meetings? If so, that’s great and you are welcome to continue to do so! However, if you found that your creation has been especially useful to increase awareness of the SMART Recovery program, or in helping your meeting participants to grasp a specific tool, then perhaps you might like to share your creation with a wider audience. We would love to have you send a copy of the material to the Materials Review Committee for our review and potential widespread distribution.

The Committee, composed of volunteers from throughout various areas of the SMART organization, requests that you complete and submit this form, and send an email to adminassist@smartrecovery.org with a copy of the material you are submitting attached.

If you are interested in being a part of the Materials Review Committee, we are seeking volunteers. Please contact adminassist@smartrecovery.org for additional information.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

We encourage our volunteers to work together for support and to collaborate. It's well known that when you put heads together you are likely to come up with more ideas than you would on your own. There are a few ways that volunteers can get in touch with each other.

  • In SMART Recovery Online (SROL) we have  the Facilitator's Forum which is available to anyone who has completed facilitator training. In order to access, please send an email request to adminKT@smartrecovery.org.

  • One of our most well-known resources for communication is Google Groups. Our main Google Groups is "SMARTCAL" which is our general group for facilitators. We also offer specialty Google Groups such as: Teen & Youth, Treatment Professionals, Indigenous Communities, and Family & Friends. You can request access upon registering for VolunteerHQ or send an email request to VolunteerHQ@smartrecovery.org

  • Finally, our announcements in VolunteerHQ are in blog format which allow you to respond to us as well.

Meetings of Interest for Volunteers

SMART 4 Volunteers (S4V)

SMART 4 VOLUNTEERS (S4V) is a private SMART Recovery meeting for our volunteers.  While volunteering, people need to take time to focus on themselves. This meeting has a different purpose than the SMART Meeting Management (SMM) meetings.

This group meets on Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. ET. and is facilitated by Jasper2016.

SMART Meeting Management (SMM) Meetings

If you are interested in furthering your meeting management skills or more smoothly handling challenges you might encounter while facilitating your meeting, this is the meeting for you!

The SMART Meeting Management (SMM) meetings are every:

  • Monday: 10:00 p.m. ET

  • Wednesday: 8:00 p.m. ET

  • Friday: 6:00 p.m. ET

(NOTE: Zoom links for these meetings are behind the VHQ login or on SMARTCAL.)
