Announcements & Reminders

Labor Day Meeting Cancelations

Due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday and staff vacations, all daytime facilitator training and support meetings will be cancelled the week of September 2nd.

If you facilitate a meeting that will be impacted by this or any other holiday, please take a moment to add a cancel note to your meeting. Instructions for doing this through the self-service meeting change form can be found on the register or update your meeting page in VolunteerHQ.

We Want to Hear from You!

Have you joined us for a weekday SMART Meeting Management meeting lately? Each weekday, we offer opportunities to learn from SMART Staff and Volunteers. We demonstrate how to use SMART Tools in meetings, we practice Motivational Interviewing skills, talk about how to market your SMART Meeting, and so much more.

Now, we are seeking your feedback on these meetings. Whether you’ve never attended, haven’t attended lately, or attend regularly, your insights will help us improve the timing, content, and overall experience of these sessions to better meet your needs. This survey is anonymous, but if you’re open to a follow-up discussion, please leave your contact information at the end. Thank you for your participation!

Special Training Sale!

September is Recovery Month, a time to celebrate progress and raise awareness about the importance of mutual recovery support. To mark this important month, SMART Recovery is offering a special discount on our SMART Meeting Facilitator and Family & Friends Facilitator training programs!

For the entire month of September, our self-paced online facilitator trainings for volunteers are just $49!

If you know someone looking to become a SMART Recovery facilitator or that wants to learn how to better support a loved one, please let them know about this opportunity. Our training programs empower people with the tools and knowledge to help themselves and others navigate the path to recovery with confidence and success.

Please share the information below with those attending your meeting and with anyone else who may benefit from it.

Why Take SMART Recovery Training?

  • Proven Techniques: Learn practical, evidence-informed tools and strategies.

  • Community Impact: Join a global community committed to positive change.

  • Flexible Learning: Our online training is designed to fit your schedule.

  • Affordable: This special $49 offer is our way of working to make training accessible to everyone during National Recovery Month (scholarships and discounts offered for students, veterans, and others—email training@smartrecovery.org for more information).

This offer is only available from September 1st to September 30th. Don’t miss out!

Note: No code required! Simply sign up and the Recovery Month price will be applied!

If you take this training to join an existing meeting as a new facilitator, please don't forget to register yourself to the meeting, as we are tracking the number of facilitators per meeting as a sustainability measure.

Celebrate Recovery Month with SMART!

If you are someone who lives your recovery out loud this Recovery Month, we'd love for you to share pictures of ways that you are doing so.

If you are attending any kind of recovery event this month, we’d love to post pictures from that gathering on our social media channels.

What better way to demonstrate our pursuit of a healthy and balanced lifestyle than sharing what we’re up to during the month of September!

We’re also happy to consider sharing your reflections and stories about recovery for others to enjoy. Feel free to reach out to Luke Frazier in our communications department (LFrazier@smartrecovery.org) with your ideas.

If you agree that SMART needs to be more than the “best kept secret” in recovery, send us pictures to share!

A New Way to Promote Your Meeting

Would you like more exposure for your online meeting? If your meeting is a Pathcheck meeting, you can opt in to have your meeting listed in the Pathcheck app. This will help participants who are seeking attendance verification find your meeting without having to do a location search.

You can opt-in using the Meeting Change feature on your meeting page in SMARTfinder:

On the Meeting Change form, just switch the “Promote Meeting on Pathcheck” field to “Yes” and confirm your change.

Remember to check your email and confirm the change!

Facilitators Wanted for Successful Life Skills

We’re seeking facilitators for SMART Successful Life Skills classes! SMART offers this course free-of-charge to recovery organizations in certain states. This is made possible through a partnership with The Fletcher Group and a grant from the Elevance Foundation.

If you have at least six months’ experience running a SMART meeting, we invite you to apply. After a brief interview and orientation, facilitators will run a 12-sesson Successful Life Skills course with one of those organizations. These sessions are normally held via Zoom, so you can participate from anywhere in the U.S.  Additionally, grant funds allow us to offer a $25 stipend per session, per facilitator.

Please contact Alena Kuplinski (akuplinski@smartrecovery.org) directly if you are interested in taking part in this important initiative.
