Day 01

Friend, Welcome to the 12 Days of Christmas violin challenge for busy women!

For the next 12 days we will be focusing on the following aspects:

Key of the week

Interval of the week

Position of the week

Single or double stops

The technical element or awareness

We will be working on the aspects above in different ways every day to challenge you, and stretch your technique, creativity and comfort with your instrument encouraging you to take risks and have a little fun.

As this is a hectic time of the year for everyone, I have kept the content very simple. Our purpose is to get your violin out and play!

If you accept it, your challenge is to play for at least 7 minutes for the next 12 days, starting today. Get today's material here.

Important!

Tackle one routine per day this week, and try the suggested 7 minutes in length. I know it is tempting to do more, and that is ok, but I often see people taking on too much, then not doing it every day and quitting after a few days out of frustration, particularly if they haven’t played in a while.

I have recently learned a huge lesson: Go Slow to Go Fast.

If you find it too easy, go ahead and explore other positions, bowing combinations etc… but the point is to spend short, focused time on the task at hand.

Remember to:

Focus on quality, not quantity.

If you found something difficult and the timer has run out, don't stress. You can try again tomorrow! Progress, not perfection.

If something is too easy, work on it anyways and take the opportunity to add another aspect to work on, like vibrato, full sound, dynamics, intonation, or a higher position... You know the drill ;)
